2000 TL - Transmission Finally Died
Well, after spending a month in the body shop...
![]() ...and having every panel except the bumpers completely refinished, the transmission decided to die less than forty-eight hours later. The code it signaled was a failure in a hydraulic circuit. My theory is that a seal that was on its last legs finally dried out over the course of the month and gave way once we started driving it again. It's got 87,500 miles - we've babied it, and worked at home - so it was well within the warranty mileage but was about 8-9 months outside of the 7 year, 9 month time limit, which ended in November 2007 for us. We were looking at $3,000-$4,000, but thankfully the dealership escalated our displeasure about the failure of an <100,000-mile HONDA transmission, and they agreed to pay for parts if we'd pay for labor. Hopefully we'll get at least another eight years out of it. |

I'd go so far as to say it's a GREAT car other than the transmission. My wife and I have loved it since the day we drove it off the lot at Los Gatos Acura out in California, and are hoping for another twelve years out of it so that it can be our son's first car. Just need to dodge the deer and moose here in New Hampshire.
