2003 TL surging while shifting
Has anyone had a problem when there TL is cold that it surges slightly when shifting? Just bought an 03 with 37,000 on it and it seams to surge when shifting from second to 3rd or 3rd to 4th. Once the car is warm, after a few miles I can't get it to act up again.

Take a read through here.
Look At me, another Transmission Thread Near the end I describe similar symptoms and current status. I'd highly recommend, at your earliest convenience, getting the tranny fluid changed out (2 or 3 times drain and fill is the only method with Honda fluid) That should help. Worst case you may still be covered under the extended warranty, check your VIN with Acura. Good luck. BTW: the 5AT does shift differently when cold but mostly in Winter type weather as opposed to just being "cold" from sitting. It's designed to hold the gears longer to let the engine get to operating temp quicker.

Before switching to Amsoil ATF I had a surge when my TL would shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. After dropping the fluid 4 times to get 100% synthetic I have 8000 miles on Amsoil ATF and have experienced smother shifts, quicker warm ups and haven't had it surge since I replaced it. I thought I would post my results for people like me who want to do whatever they can to help Honda's poorly designed transmissions.
