Was about to buy a 99tl today, and then......
Hey guys, new to the forum figured id join because i planned to purchase a 99tl today. Well today I went and test drove the car. It is a 99tl with 133,000 miles, lowered with a lip kit and some cheezy 16" motegi wheels with very chunky (50 or 55 series) tires. lol. Anyway, the car is pretty clean, has a dent in the front fender but otherwise in good shape. the tls motor sounded very healthy (despite being a quart low on oil) had dual magnaflows. So, im driving it and it shifted fine, i switched through the gears and left it in auto and it was ok. Only bad thing was the car shook really badly at around 60mph, the guy said it was the tires needing balancing and got the 2 front tires done for me. Well when i went for the 2nd test drive the car started shifting hard and i thought it was slipping but it was rainging outside. The tcs light would come on everytime it "slipped". The tcs light would only flash for the split second or so that the tranny did what i thought was slip. The dealership told me that it is a solenoid that probably got wet because there is no belly pan under the car. What do you guys think and what is the tcs light about. The guy told me it is for traction control. I really like the car, I was getting the car for $4000 out the door. But... this is a dealership where i was about to buy the car from and they could have turned the cel light off and know of more problems. They said they would replace the solenoid and i can go back on monday and buy the car...... ANY and ALL input will be greatly appreciated.
THANKS P.S. I have pics of the car also (if anybody gives a s##t) |

I think it was just the TCS (traction control system) doing it's job in the rain. Maybe the throttle body is sticking? Would result in heavy acceleration and wheelspin. Wheelspin makes the TCS system (and light) engage.
You have any service records for that car? Don't know why the splash shield would be off ... but the tranny fluid should be replaced, I'd say, and I would want to know when the timing belt was replaced (due at 100K miles).
