Question Aftermarket radio /w navi?

what up guys. i got a 2002 tl-s w/nav. i really wanna get this eclipse radio/cd/dvd thats like a 7 in non-flip screen. all the stores say i cant install it in my car without getting rid of the navi. but yet ive seen it done by someone on this site. does anyone know the real truth. someone please help me out. i would greatly appreciate it. i just wanna know if can put in an aftermarket radio and still have my factory nav. work. thanx

They are all incorrect. You can put it right below your Navi unit, right where your cd player is currently, you just need to get a kit for it to fit properly.

ok. maybe i i said something wrong. i didnt mean get rid of the navi system. they told me i cant install an aftermarket radio and have the factory nav work. they said i will just have a blank monitor b/c the nav works thru the factory radio. is there any wy around that?

No, I understood what you said. I have no idea what they are talking about. Probably unfamiliar with the TL. You wouldn't lose Nav with an aftermarket unit. I heard in the past you would lose the voice commands, but there are ways around it.

I just went to my shop and they told me the same thing!

hey crash, I have THE EXACT SAME TL you have..EXACT EVERYTHING..hah

but anyways Id love some more info about this

I'm hoping some of the fellas with Nav will chime in. I don't see how these shops can tell you this when I have been in 2 TL with an aftermarket HU and NAV.

thats what I am saying...I just got back from the shop and the guys there were positive you couldnt...they told me they would install the headunit in my glove box!

haha

i told them I saw it with my own two eyes...they still wouldnt believe me..

I've been told you can do it, but the only thing you lose is the voice-guided directions. You can unplug the head unit and the navi still works, so I don't see why there would be an issue.

well on top of that . i used to work for the guy i goto. and hes like the top 50 audio shops on the east coast.and my freind. he said he would love to take my money for the radio but it cant be done.! there HAS to be a way. ive seen one picture on cardomain showing the nav and after market radio playing at the sane time. i really want an aftermarket radio and my factory nav. someone please HELP!!!! lol

I'll try to get my boy to post on here. He has NAV and was using it while I was in the car with his system bangin. The guy you go to must just be unfamiliar with the way it needs to be done.

thas rite everythign works teh same way only difference is that voice tellign you to turn will be gone, other then that its good to go but ive heard of ppl adding a lil speaker in for the voice, but i donno how that works out
