Just got and installed the new disc today. Here's the version info:

v2.30 (old):
-Database: 02.0403.08.051005.1401.01.00.00.02
-Software: 2.11.28

v2.40 (new):
-Database: 02.0502.09.071306.1402.01.00.00.02
-Software: 2.11.29

The bolded number represents the date the POI/Map database was finalized, so v2.30 is from 05/10/05 and v2.40 is from 07/13/06. Hopefully that will help you decide if the update is worth it in your area.

The software update is obviously very minor, if any. I didn't see any differences, and it might just be an incremental version because it is a new disc.

It all depends on your area. For the 2nd gen TLs/CLs, any disc after v2.11 is a *huge* improvement in coverage than from what was originally installed in the vehicle upon delivery. After that, it really depends on what area of the country you live/travel. For me, it's always worth it and I see improvements in my area with each new disc.

Thanks for answering! I have been using a harddrive navi since I purchased the car, but recently bit the bullet and upgraded from harddisk to DVD. I have 2.05b now. I guess I will look into an upgrade past 2.11 to see if I want to go to 2.30 and later 2.40. I won't pay more than 100 for it though(2.30).

I was wondering if the upgraded is better then the v2.20 that was a problematic version the POI missing and street name entry would try and guess the next letter or street name but would shade out other choices drove me crazy and switched back to v2.11c

They all do that shade out thing, depending on what option you chose.

I finally upgraded to version 2.11B from 2.05B. I am not sure if it was worth it. It's funny because I noticed today when I tried to find a movie theatre in the advanced categories section today, in my newer version, there wasn't one. There was one in the 2.05, but apparently not one in 2.11B. Kind of wierd. There was a catergory for "beets and sugarcane" and "space equipment" but not for movie theatres. Yes your are reading this correctly.

Also I noticed that the streets are not labelled as frequently on the map at standard zoom. I don't always use the voice guided navi, sometimes I just use the map and it is a little dissappointing to not have the streets labelled.

My last gripe, (this has turned into a rant) is it's SLOW!!! A lot slower than 2.05. Takes longer to load the warning message, and once I click ok, there is a pretty significant delay. it was almost like I was using the harddisk drive again. Maybe I need to let the GPS reposition itself. I don't know.

I think I am just going to go back to my 2.05 for now. But I still want to upgrade because there are new highways in this area that I would like to have access to in the navigation.

Has anyone noticed these differences? Especially the movie theatre thing? I would liketo get the 07 uprade when it comes out....if it comes out. Have newer version run slower on the DVD units?

I went from 2.05 to 2.11c most was ok but slower of course since it's a dual layer DVD with double the P.O.I. like you mentioned less detail and street names what was worst was the v2.20 it wouldn't let you correct the adaptive text thing when it guess your street name or place and drove me nuts as when I get my destination it shows the street I tryed to enter so that one went back to Alpine and lost my shipping cost. now i'm hesitant of trying the 06 version 2.40.

What version do you use now? I am hesitant also, but I would like to have updated streets.

I intended to sell my 2.05 after I bought the 2.11. I am glad I didn't. Since we now know 2.20 may have issues as well, has anyone had similar issues with 2.30 or 2.40? speed? labelled streets? no movie theatre category? I dont mind spending 185 for the disc, but I would like it to work.

I just remembered that I can't revert back to a previous version without dealer assistance. So now I am stuck with 2.11 . Oh well. I guess it is between 2.30 and 2.40 for now.

2.11 was definitely slower than 2.05, but that was to be expected since both the map database and the POI database more than doubled in size. It's going to take the processor more time to chug through all that extra data. However, I think v2.20 was a little faster and v2.30/v2.40 were faster still (I've had every update). The coding has probably been optimized for the slower processor. Again, it will still be a little slower than what you had with 2.05 but I personally think the speed trade-off is worth having the drastically expanded mapped area and POI updates.

i'm running 2.11c now but actually you can go back to 2.05 without going to the dealer ...what you do is gointo the diagnostic mode by holding three buttons and turing the key on or with by shorting the 2 pin connector in the trunk next to the navi and through the diagnostic menu and 2.05 in the drive hit force download and it will reboot into 2.05.
