the heat went out on my 2001 TL. I got the temp jacked
up to 80 but it's blowing out cold air...heater core right?
How in depth is it to replace? I'm broke and need to do
it myself, I've replaced heater cores on old domestics but nothing
this recent.

I would try and bleed the cooling system first. Turn the heater on to full blast, take the rad cap off and run the engine until you have at least 3 cycles of the rad fan or running at operation temperature for 10 min. Top off fluid as necessary.

No.
A clogged heater core would have gotten worse gradually.
Sudden loss of heat points to a coolant control valve (does the Acura have one?) or an air-mix door motor. If you are lucky it's just a linkage come adrift.

don't know about Acura but my Lexus LS400 has a valve just before the heater core and was leaking for xx months and coolant was low, lost heat all the sudden. filled coolant with cycling the fans and heat came back. had to do this till I found the valve issue (I also thought it was a heater core... I was wrong and it was much cheaper to replace the valve)

With the vehicle at operating temp and the heat on high, feel the heater hoses. If only one is warm, it's the heater valve or something in the logic circuit leading up to the valve.

I am having the same problem with my 2001 MDX. I think it is the thermostat. Just replace my radiator a week ago. It is could also be low on fluid will bleed mine as well and post back. Any other thoughts out there?
