Car 1: 99 MBP TL
'99 Fog Lights

Yes, I know this topic has been beaten to hell and back. So why am i posting another thread? I've done the searches..and i still have some questions. So sorry to all the ppl that are tired of this. I wanted to know a few things: What aftermarket fogs fit nicely on the TL? Or do i have to do extensive modification to fit ANY of them? Also..how do i wire the switch..i mean where can i put the on button basically? Thanks a lot.

someone called my name?

answers to your questions spyder:

1) yes, PIAA fog lights do come with bulbs (if they burn out, you will need to buy a replacement bulb)
2) there are NO aftermarket fogs that fit nicely without extensive modification - this is if you want to install them in the corner pockets (fog light holes). If you want to install the fog lights in the large gap between the corner pockets (the space underneath the license plate holder), you can do so but it is not advisable as thieves can easily get their hands on it and swipe it
3) Songoku can provide details on the actual wiring process (I had mine professionally installed). If you plan on getting a shop to install it for you, be prepared to pay a STEEP price, as it is not an easy job to do - in fact, my installer vowed never to install fog lights on another TL unless he was paid Cdn $500 or more because it was such a pain in the butt to do!
3) You can put your PIAA switch almost anywhere you want. For a more custom look, I went with the Inspire fog light switch that I got from Japan, and had that hooked up to the PIAAs. See the pic below:

My '99 TL should be like yours - there's a closed cover that goes over one of the switch locations. That cover gets yanked out, and my Inspire fog light switch is installed there (see pic above, 3rd switch from the left - compare this pic to your TL).

If you are not using the corner pockets, you could get almost any PIAA that is reasonable size I would think. It will mean that you will need to trim part of the bumper/grill thingy to make it fit. But if you don't want to trim, you could get the flat, oval shaped ones that will fit without cutting (not sure of which brand, you will need to check into this). A good body shop will not have any problems doing any of this for you. Good luck and show pics when done!

I got my Inspire fog light switch from ValueTL (who is no longer a preferred vendor anymore unfortunately). I bought it back then for about USD $35 + shipping. ValueTL now sells it for USD $39 + shipping. Shipping is expensive as it is directly from Japan (factor in an additional $10-$15 I think). The only other import shop that I can think of that can get you this Inspire switch is A&J Racing Motorsport, located in Richmond, BC (email: info@aj-racing.com, tel: 604-279-0329, fax: 604-279-0839). Ask for Alan Chow - I haven't bought anything from him yet, but my impression of him is that he is very professional and upfront. Nice guy. Give him a try and ask for a quote on how much it would cost to ship it to you.

Yes you can wire the fogs so that it turns on when your headlight go on, but IMHO, it is better to wire the fogs to come on when the parking lights are on (you can manually select whether you want the fog lights on with the parking light). I don't know the technical details of wiring, so sorry can't help you there. Again I think Songoku might know this. If you plan on getting the Inspire fog light switch, you WILL need to get the 98+ Honda Accord 4 cyc. (do NOT get the V6 version!) fog light harness to make this work. The harness plugs into the Inspire switch perfectly (and only this wiring harness works, nothing else). However, having said that, I didn't use this wiring harness - my installer was able to solder the fog wires to the Inspire switch for a permanent connection. This is extremely difficult to do, so unless you know exactly what you are doing, I don't recommend this route (unless you get a professional installer to solder the connections for you). Hope all this info helps, and answers your questions! Good luck!

spyder:

Here's a pic of my fog lights on with the parking lights only. So the fogs cannot be turned on if the parking lights are off. With the parking lights on, I can manually select whether I want to turn the fogs on or off. And of course, I can turn on my HID headlights, highbeams, and fogs - all on at the same time (no pic of this)!

Thanks a ton patrick!! I think i'm just going to wire the foglights into the fusebox so they turn on when my headlights come on..no seperate switch.. Too lazy/broke to do the inspire switch.
