Car 1: Acura TSX 2005
Question iPod connection

Hey guys,

I just bought a certified preowned Acura TSX 2005 and enjoy it very much. I am new to the forum as well.

Here's my question, if I have an iPod, how can I cleanly connect it to my car? I looked into the problem myself and don't really want to do it through FM transmitter (seems like there'll be lose of sounds quality and stuff), I wanna be able connect it to some kind of cable. Can someone give me any advice on the issue? I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks in advance,

You're either stuck with an FM transmitter solution, or with something like the Acura i-Linc, which is available at Acura dealerships. It works in 2005 and newer Acura models, and allows you to connect your iPod directly the stereo system, and treats your playlists on your iPod like separate CD's in a CD changer, so you can even change tracks with the stereo system's controls. However, the dealership quoted me a hefty cost of almost $400 Canadian, installed.

An AUX audio-in connection was not introduced on the TSX until the 2006 model year. I currently use the Belkin Auto Kit (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=193794) to connect my iPod through the AUX connector. I can change the volume using the stereo system's controls, but have to use the iPod to change tracks or playlists. Not as elegant as the i-Linc, but it's also around $330 cheaper.

My 2nd blitzsafe adapter worked great on my TSX.

Same deal as above for the TSX. If you don't have an AUX input jack, you're stuck with the FM transmitter option, or the outrageously expensive i-Linc.

iPod connection

Thanks, Riceboy

This may be a stupid question, but I believe there is an AUX connection in the middle console (its the type of "jack" that looks like the cell phone rechargers that fit into the old cigarette lighters. Is there a device that connects to this? Also, does this allow the iPod to be played through the stereo or do you still need to play it through the WiFi devices?

Thanks again

If it looks like a regular headphone jack, like on the iPod, then that's it. In the TSX, it is also in the centre console with an additional 12V outlet. I use the Belkin Auto-Kit: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=193794 (but am sure there are other similar products by others out there, but I had a hard time finding them) to connect my iPod. It connects to the dock connector on your iPod to the 12V outlet, to keep your iPod charged. All you would need is a male-to-male audio cable, which connects from the pre-amp on the Auto-Kit to the AUX connection, to get audio to your headunit. This bypasses the headphone connector on the iPod itself, which can also limit the sound quality. The Auto-Kit gets the audio through the dock connector instead.
