Need help from an '09 TSX 6MT owner. Thanks.

Hi there. Was between an '09 TSX 6MT and '08 Accord Coupe EX-L V6 6MT/Navi (same money), and the decision was made for me. The TSX would take THREE MONTHS to get here (only dealer around doesn't order manuals), and an unsold Coupe 6MT was just arriving. Needed a car right away as somebody was picking up my pristine '06 GTO the next day.

Anyway, got the better engine and navi, but gave up some luxury features by choosing the Honda. One that bothers me is the cheap shift knob and cheesy vinyl boot. I want to order the TSX's knob and boot, but have a few questions to make sure they fit. Hope somebody is in the mood to help:

1. Is the boot leather? If yes, can somebody measure its rectangular base at the console (width and length)? Looks very close to my 6MT, but want to make sure.

2. Is the boot attached to the knob by that black ring? If not, does it stay in place by friction, or can it move up and down the shaft? Just curious.

3. Finally, and most importantly, can somebody unscrew the knob and measure the thickness from the top of the hole and top of knob? You can use a pen and give me an approximation. In other words, want to know how higher the top of the knob would sit compared to the top of the bare shaft. Does that make sense?
The Accord shaft is pretty high to being with, but after I 'countersunk' the cheapo plastic knob 1-1/8", it now screws down almost to the top of the shaft (maybe 1/8" above it), and it's perfect. Am glad since I didn't want to cut the shaft.

I want to make sure the TSX's knob sits similarly low. And if not, can you remove the top part where the shift pattern is engraved? That way I could drill it from the top and 'countersink' it like I did the stock one. Don't want any other knob since none look OEM. I like the '09 because it doesn't have perforated leather like the previous TSX (my coupe does not have perforated leather on the seats).
Thank you very much in advance for your help. I owned an '04 MDX Touring/Nav (wife's) that recently traded for a CRV, so I'm not a total stranger to Acura. Take care gang.
JC

You dont want a hell of a lot do ya?

Boot is leather, and it slides up and down on the shaft.

According to an actual '09 owner (over Acurazine), NO. And I believe him over you . He also said the boot was leather, so you got that right.
I actually don't care if the boot slides or not since I can fix that.

And am I asking a lot? To somebody like you, apparently yes. For someone who wants to help, no. Many Honda (and maybe Acura) owners change their knobs with Mavens, and other 'countersunk' ones to lower the knob height. I just want to know how high the '09 TSX knob sits above the top of the shaft. Later.

Plus you're asking how to do things that a kid in 5th grade shop class could handle.

We need to tone down this discussion a bit before folks start getting themselves into infractions.

So guess you're in 4th grade at the most then . And handle what moron? All I need is 5 minutes with an '09 you don't even own.

Seems like I only attracted smart a$$ punks who have nothing better to do than making stupid comments. Fortunately found a much more active TSX board with people willing to help . Will ask mods to delete this thread.

Actually, I think I'm going to leave this thread open. Have fun at AZ, with your attitude, I'm sure that you will fit in well there.

My attitude??? Geez. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. With moderators like you, no wonder why I got this kind of replies.

Sent you a PM to delete this thread (if you want), and delete my account. Won't log in ever again. Go to hell gang .

In the future, I would suggest that you check out redline9.com for mixing parts from Honda and Acura models.
