Replace Battery?

Hi everyone

Quick question... I took my car in for an oil change to a Jiffy Lube equivalent and they happened to test my battery... told me that the rating of it was 410CCA and that the current state of it was ~355CCA... they recommended replacement, claiming that it could fail to start in temps < 23F...

Now, I live in MA and it does get cold here... I've not really noticed any difficulty - there is a slight delay in the turnover but I think that's the result of the emissions controls...

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Justin

i'd say take it to the dealer, it should have some sort of factory warranty or free check-up/maintenance.

Why did they test it?

How old is your TSX and why did they test it in the first place. Sounds like a quick way to make a fast buck.....run as fast as you can away from that place!

You will know soon enough when your battery is dying..dimmed headlights, slow starting...If its more than 3 years old, you may want to consider replacing it but check it out for sure.

Good luck

I beg to differ...............When I had my 05 in for the 50K service (at the dealer), they tested the battery and found it was weak. They replaced it under warranty (goodwill actually), so who am I to argue (I'll take a free battery anytime). My point being that I assume the battery actually was weak, though I never had a problem and there were no signs of it performing poorly. A weak battery will often show no signs of sub standard performance until a real load it placed on it (like starting in cold weather). And from what I've read here and elsewhere, the Acura OE batteries are not that great to begin with. I agree with the 3 year replacement suggestion, especially in colder areas (I'm in Mass. also).

The only way to tell if your battery is going to be strong enough is to get it load tested. Go to Interstate Batteries or an independent shop and have it load tested again, see what they say.
