Lawsuit re Acura Transmission Defect
Our law firm has filed a lawsuit against American Honda Motor Co., Inc. regarding defective automatic transmissions. The complaint alleges that these transmission failures are a safety hazard because they can cause the vehicles to downshift abruptly and without warning, at any speed, and cause sudden deceleration, loss of power, wheel lock, loss of control, and collisions. The vehicles involved, at this time, include 2000 through 2003 Acura 3.2 CL (including Type S); 2000 through 2003 Acura 3.2 TL (including Type S); and 2000 through 2001 Honda Accord, Odyssey, and Prelude. We request that anyone who has experienced these or other problems with an automatic transmission in any of these vehicles, including but not limited to property damage or personal injury, contact us with details of your experiences at hondacomplaints@pkns.com

I just spoke to the attorney who is handling this case. Told him my tranny dropped out from under me at around 40k and gave him some details.
I asked him what the goal of the lawsuit is, and he said for everyone to get new transmissions, not rebuilt ones and maybe even some monetary compensation(he says it is too early in the case for him to tell about the $$$) I suggest everyone who has had a failed tranny, send him an email and give him a detailed explanation of what happened. We may just get NEW trannys, but then again I probably won't have my car anymore by the time this case is finally over

I talked to the lawyer today - He responded to my e-mail almost immediately...Good guy (Matt Nugent) They are working on a personal injury case against Acura because of a faulty tranny and they are also looking to get HOA to recall the faulty trannies.
Will it happen? Doubtful. But it cant hurt just to share your experiences with him.

I haven't had problems with my 2002 Acura TLS transmission yet but believe it is a dangerous thing for these sports sedans to be only fixed when they fail. Acura advertised this sedan as a machine you can drive in a sporty manner but I'm afraid to drive in any way except extreme caution.
My other concern is the resale value of these cars because of the known transmision problems. Maybe this firm will get somewhere for all us owners and the safety of everyone on the highway. |
