1987 Integra RS Idle Fluxuation
Hi All !!,
New to the site so I do hope I am posting in the correct area. If not, sorry and can you please direct me in the correct direction. PROBLEM: I have a 1987 Acura Integra RS 5 door hatchback with the 1.6l engine. What the car is doing is when I start it in the morning and it idles high for warming up as supposed to, within 2 to 4 minutes the idle starts to surge from roughly 700 to 2350 RPM's, up and down, up and down. If I put it in drive with the foot brake on, it does NOT surge. If I am accelerating while driving it does NOT surge, but if I am driving at any speed and then just take my foot off the gas pedal, the idle does NOT just sit at the 8 to 9 hundred RPM [or whatever the correct RPM is when at a normal idle speed], it surges the same as when trying to warm it up at first start of the day. I took it to a real honest man who checked for vacuum leaks, NONE, checked the Fuel Injectors and found NO problem with any of them. I then took it to another honest mechanic who works on more than just fuel injection and he told me that the most likely culprit causing all this might be the Idle Air Control Valve. He told me to take it off, clean it real good with carburetors cleaner and see if it works before buying a new, which I did and to no avail the problem was still there. He also said there was no way to test the one on my car and that the only way to see if that is/was the problem was to remove and replace. Against my pocket book's wishes, I ended up having to buy a new one [which was a b$%ch finding] for more money than what I thought I would have to spend for a new part. I put it on, prayed, started the car and the problem.....STILL THERE !!! I now do not know what to do. Has anyone had this problem or heard of this problem and know what I need to do to fix it? I hope so, as I need to register my car on time. Any help is VERY MUCH APPRECIATED in advance!!!! Thx Rays-RS |

No, there are no dummy lights on. All seems to run fine except for this issue. Has ANYONE any Idea on what this problem might be caused by at all? ANY of your professional assistance would be greatly appreciated !!!!!
Thx Once Again, Rays-RS
