Car 1: 1995 Acura 2.5L TL |
New to the forum and this is my first posting. Here is my story and I feel like a such a schmuck right about now. I just bought this '95 2.5L TL with 120K miles for my son to drive. He is a new driver and I wanted a car with ABS. The ABS light was on when I test drove it . Well I didn't pay much attention to it and bought the car because the price was fair ($4,390). Well, this morning I took it to the Acura dealer and they just called and said that it need a new ABS modulator. The cost for the part would be $2,700. I about #$*%!!!
So I find a used ABS modulator on eBay for $150. My question is how hard are these to replace? Has anyone done this and have any good advice for me? Is buying a used modulator on eBay a good idea? Thanks.... Ben |

ABS Modulator
Quote:
I too am new to this forum. I am getting very knowledgable on other Acura ABS systems. It seems that the dealerships will not do anything other than replace modulators. What I am finding on other Acuras is that the ABS system is in need of a good flush and bleed. Sometimes the solenoids get crud into them and like to stick open. Is there anyone here on this forum that has figured out what makes the ABS system tick in the TL series cars? I am very familiar with the early NSXs. I am sure that there is a lot of similarities in all of the systems since NISSAN made them all for Acura. The one thing that you need to do is get your hands on a TL maintenance manual and study the ABS system. Check to see if you can get one on CD off of e-bay. There may even be one on this forum. Be sure to bleed the high pressure brake fluid off before you remove any of the ABS lines. As far as a used on on e-Bay, who knows. It may have the same problems as yours. If you are somewhat mechanical you should be able to do it yourself. Where do you live? I am in Boise, Idaho. Let me know if I can help. Brad |

Your TL is similar to the Vigor. Replacing the modulator isn't that hard, but does require care due to the fact that it's part of the braking system. It's a matter of getting the unit out, and bleeding it afterwards that's the difficult part.
