While this is not the first project that i have done, actually very far from it, it is the first that was recorded on camera...
tools used:
- Very Fine sand paper
- Masking tape
- 1-2 cans of light primer
- 2 cans of color
- 1 can of clear coat
Myself and acouple friends did a little DIY to some wheels i had laying around in my garage and heres how we did it:
We started with silver painted rims with a polished lip, and sanded down the silver paint to end up with this. make sure you use a very fine sand paper, you just want to take the the silver off and score the wheel till it has a light grain for the primer will hold on.
Then we started masking off the tires to get ready for priming the wheel
we did this in my garage
a little bit more masking to the wheels.
how the wheels looked after the primer. i chosed a very light primer for the wheels because we were using a lighter finishing color. I sprayed down aprox. 5-6 coats of primer because the wheels are a very complicated pattern and i wanted to get every little corner their was. Primer tends to dry fairly quickly so we let the primer sit for aprox 45mins.
my friend adam showing off the duplicolor gold paint we used on the rims
myself spraying down the wheels with gold. we had 2 cans of the duplicolor paint for all four wheels but by the end of it we had about a 3/4 of a can left. If i could recal, it was about 7 soft coats for each wheel. We let the wheels sit for aprox 45mins as well so that when we applied the clear, it will hold a better shine.
heres a picture of the wheels before i applied the clear coat.
after clearcoat and masking removed. 5 soft coats of clear per wheel. we let the wheels sit for about an hour before we started to un mask the wheels.
finished product
all the products that were used for this DIY were purchased at a local Canadian Tire.
