Replacing rear tail light essembly

I have talked to the dealer about replacing a crack rear tail light cover and they indicated the entire tail light needs to be replaced. So I bought one on the net but now the dealer is saying the entire bumper needs to come off to replace the rear light essembly. Can anyone clarify this? The Acura dealer is trying to charge me $125 for install so I wanna know if this is something I can do by myself. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Are they ripping you off or just you purchased a wrong taillight thats why it can't fit. If not, then go to other place that can fix your problem.

if you are replacing the entire tail light then you need to remove the bumper. you can do this very easily. in fact you only have to loosen the side that has the light that needs to be replaced.

yup - the bumper has to be at least loosened! Give you access to all the bolts
