2008 Acura TL Type-S or wait for 09 TL?

Hello all this is my first post!

I'm gonna get a new car soon and I've been trying to research as much as I can so I get my moneys worth..I've been eyeing the 2008 Acura TL Type-S and was wondering if it's gonna be worth it to get in now..or should I just wait for the 2009 TL coming this summer/fall? I saw this pics of the 2009 TL and was disappointed however, it might come with AWD so that's a big bonus that is interesting me. I'm a type of person that wants to have a car that no one else really has yet, but my mentality is that if I get a 08 type s NOW and the 09 TL comes out a couple of months later, will it be worth it? Also, for ANY of you guys that have the type-s, any tips or suggestions? Is there really anything wrong with it besides being FWD? I've heard that it has problems shifting to 3rd gear..etc. Thanks for your time!

First of all, what pics did you see? The one that has been making its way around the web and in CAR AND DRIVER has been determind to be Photoshopped. I have seen no accurate pics as of yet.

Really, in your situation it will depend on three things:

1. How long can you wait?

2. How good of a "deal" are you looking for?

3. Do you really want or need AWD?

You should be able to get a pretty good deal on an '08 Type-S if you wait until late August. If you hold out for the '09 expect to pay sticker until February or March...maybe even longer if it turns out to be a really "hot" car!

Haha, I just noticed that the picture of the 09 TL was photoshopped after I posted this thread. As for the three things:

1. I gotta get a car soon.

2. The dealership that I'm planning to go to, three of my friends bought their cars there and each got significant discounts. I'm sure I'm gonna be able to get lower than MSRP and lower interest.

3. I've heard that AWD is better to drive and more fun.

Answering those questions, I might as well get the type-s huh? Is there anything I should be aware of? I'm gonna go test drive it really soon (and maybe give the new tsx a go ).

Go test drive the Type-S then a TSX. You'll likely find the TSX to be somewhat of a joke. I mean, there's no comparison whatsoever...other than both cars are made by Acura.

If you need a car soon, the '09 TL is out of the question.

As for the AWD, sure, cars with that set-up are more fun to drive, but, once again, you said you needed one soon. The '09 likely won't be released until Sept or Oct.

The rumored 09 TL specs are sizzling...SH-AWD should let it corner like its on rails.

Unless you NEED a car now, wait till the 09 comes out. You can either get a great deal on a 08 tl-S or get the 09. Either way, win, win.

I don't know if I'd go that far. The TL is still pretty heavy so even with AWD it won't be an EVO or WRX. But, it will be so much better than FWD!

I would at least wait until pics of the '09 are out. If you don't like the '09 styling, there will be plenty of '08 leftovers ready to fly off the shelf.

Wait it out, 4 months goes by quick.

The more I read about the type-S the more I want to get it NOW. Haha, but I gotta wait about a month I need to get it now!! I've decided to get the type-s and not wait for the 09 because I'm planning to lease it for 3 years and switch it for the 09 type-s (if there is gonna be one ). I've been contemplating color selections and I'm stuck in between the copper bronze and the black. Any suggestions? I like the copper bronze color with the rims. My current car is black so I'm bored of it, but wouldn't mind it cause it still looks sexy.

I just went to an Acura dealer yesterday to test drive the type-s. I asked them if they had any type-s in manual tranny. They said they only had ONE in silver. Only one? They also mentioned that since the 09's are coming out after summer, the productions for the 08's will stop. I was looking at the black on black type-s and absolutely fell in love with it. I told them I NEEDED to get a black on black with manual tranny type-s. Do you think what they said is true? Will this affect the chances of getting the car I want?

Of COURSE it will BUT the reality is that the 2009's have not even yet been ANNOUNCED so production on 2008's with manual tranny should be readily available for AT LEAST the next 3 months. They were simply using basic sales tactics on you in an effort to get the most $'s out of your pocket as possible for getting you "what you want". Often, people are willing to pay more if they think they have too in order to get the EXACT car they want.

As a consumer, it is your right (and privilege) to market them against their competitors and get the best price possible out there. Once the 2009's DO get released, they won't be able to discount the 2008's enough so time is on your side (to a certain point...3 months from now when the 2008 inventory starts drying up after the summer).

I don't know what the production numbers for manuals are now, but when I bought my '04 6MT a month after its release I was told that only 10 percent of the TL production run would have manual trannies and only 10 percent of those would have navi. Well, I was told later that the navi number dropped below 5 percent due to a shortage of navi units.

When I bought my '04 new, the dealer couldn't seem to give away their remaining '03 inventory! I think they had about 5 or 6 premium models left.
