Angry Best way to touch up paint? Some little punk keyed up my car...

Hi folks, I just found out that some punk keyed up my car, on the driver's side door, right above the window. It's many many scratches, making it look like they took gravel and spread it all over the area. It's not a HUGE area but very noticeable and ugly. Anyone know the best way to get this touched up? Thanks.

buy the matching paint and dab the scratches with a toothpick so you dont get brush marks

Thanks for the suggestion. But I think it's big enough that it's going to look bad if I do it that way. If I were to take it to a body shop, what should I tell them to do, and how much would it cost approx? I apologize for the ignorance, it's just that this is my first fairly high-priced car and I've never had this happen before as well as not caring about minor scratches with my cheaper, former cars...

If it's pretty new (paint hasn't faded) they should be able to repair and repaint that one door alone. After the paint fades they have to paint the entire side to make it match. One door would probably be around $250-300

A real painter will be able to tell you what the score is and give you an estimate.

If the asshole just kinda whipped the key back and forth along the door, maybe he only killed the clear coat, which would be good for you. Otherwise, you're looking at the whole door getting stripped, painted and cleared.

I think that's right. I'm not a paint guy though.

It's good to laugh at yourself. Why let everyone else have all the fun?

Definitely would not use touch up paint - you'd never get it looking right.

Bite the bullet and have the car repaired properly. Get an estimate and shop it around - it shouldn't be too bad. When you see it back the way it's supposed to be you'll be glad you did.
