Is this dealer trying to s$%^# me?

I bought a 04TL CPO this past December with around 38K miles. I made a service appointment to get the wiper and power steering recalls done and just got a call saying that I need about $1300 dollars worth of maintenance done. Since buying the car, I have put about 5k miles on it (43,2xx on it now) and I was told, I need new brake pads, rotors, power steering fluid, air filter, and cabin air filter.

My questions are,

1)shouldn't most if not ALL of these items been addressed during Acuras 150 point CPO inspection?

2)If the pads and rotors need replacing after only 5K miles of driving, then they had to have been under the accpetable limit when I bought the car right?

3)With the power steering leak recall, what is the fix exactly? Would it require flushing the PS fluid anyways?

Really feel like they either screwed me when i bought it, and the 150 pt insepciton was not done, or the Service dept, just looked at miles on my car and assumed it needed all this. I'm pikcing it up tomorrow, and thinking of speaking to the salesman I bought the car from.

Yea, I went to them beacuse I bought the car from them. Unfortunatly they are 26miles away, and still the closest Acura dealer to me. I have a Honda dealer a mile down the road who does my lube and filters, but unfortuantly Honda can't do my warranty stuff.

Sounds like a load of BS to me, I would call the next closest dealer and tell them what is going on and ask their opinion. If you cant get an answer I would call Acura customer service and tell them the situation. There is no way in hell a car that passed that inspection around 5K miles ago should need brakes.

Yeah, thats what I thought. I'm going to speak with the sales people I dealt with and if that doesn't work, then Acura customer service will be getting a call.

I'd talk to him and then GM if necessary

Just get them to do the recall items then take it somewhere else for a second opinion on the rest of them. Doesn't sound right to me.

I believe the power steering fix is the replacement of a hose.

yes, that what I told them to do. I called Acura Customer service to find out what the 150 pt inspection covered, and whether these items should have been addressed. For some items its pretty vaque. They said that "brake pads with 50% pad thickness should be replaced, but if they had 50.5% then they do not have to replace them." For brake rotors it simply says to check thickness, but gives no requirement.

I questioned how I am am suppose to know what these were at when I bought the car and they said that I should have recieved a completed checklist when I bought the car, or that it should have been in the glvoebox when I got the car, and there was none. I never saw any insepction checklist, and based on their finidngs, I'm questioning them on whether a real inspection was ever even done.

Anyway, Acura C/S seems to be in agreement with me, that the service they quoted me seems premature for a car that was certified 6 months ago that has been driven average miles, and are checking with the dealer to see whats going on. I'm really going to push for all of this to get done free of charge. We'll see what happens.

FYI. Found out that the power steering recall is just the hose replacement

Car 1: 99 Mazda Protege
Car 2: 07 TL w/Navi
I don't know much about those service they say u need, but I can almost assure you that a lot of time many mechanics especially the car dealers ones love to tell u all these services that u need that are just BS.

Let me give u an example that I went through myself, my old Mazda Protege which I still drive right now when I brought it in on a 90K service 3 years ago they say I need to replace my brake pads and my rotor too cuz is below spec (whatever that means), I m like no thanks cuz I know how to do it myself. Guess what? I open it up myself and about to replace all of them, the rotor look just fine to me, but brake pad looks a little thin. So I decided to only replace my brake pad.

HERE is the kicker, now that it is 3 years later with 133K miles on my car..like 43K miles later, I still haven't replace that rotor and my brake still work just fine, no squeking sound or whatever. What is that tell u, whatever the machanic told me b4 is all BS. And this is only a Mazda I m talking about not even a high-end luxury car. I would think Acura rotor would last a lot longer than just merely 40K miles on it. At least 100k if not more or am I wrong?

Yeah I totally agree. I did just start to hear my breaks squeak a little and I had no flutter or shaking from braking so I dont see how my rotors are bad. They said that I only had 2mm pad thickness when I should have 10. They said I should have recieved an inspection report when I bought the car (never did), but the Acura C/S rep said that the dealer service manager said there was 5mm of pad when I bought the car which according to the specs is the minimum that there could be without them replacing them.

I yelling total BS to this rep and demanding they at the very least replace my pads for free. If I had been told that the minimum amount of break pads were on the car when I bought it, I would have had them replace them before I bought the car. The salesman did such a terrific job selling me on how a CPO car is just as good as buying a new car, blah blah blah...

Anyone know where there is a service schedulued maintenance interval list online?

I bought a K&N air filter at about 5k miles. My car currently has almost 60k miles and I'm still using the same K&N with no issues whatsoever. I clean it about every 10k miles.

I've never had the power steering fluid flushed...unless they did it when they replaced the hose this week. However, I had the radiator flushed at 30k miles and brake fluid flushed at 30k and 58k miles.

The flush is what they recommend me doing and is NOT part of the recall. They said that they recommend it with the milleage, but I cant find an ACURA or HONDA reference online stating that be done at any interval. Supposedly the coolant and air fliter where done when I bought the car, but they over looked that when they said I needed a new filter.

Another ?. The oil life indicator. Is that actually monitoring oil life, or is it calcuating it based on miles driven or how hard you drive?
