Just picked up my own 2008 TL-S today and
...she sure is fun to drive!
I've been looking for a car for some time now, and had narrowed down my choices to the new Camry, new Accord, or the TL-S. I test drove the Accord a few months ago when they first came out and my parents own a Camry (V6), so the only car left to test was the TL-S. I thought about waiting until the '09 came out, but was afraid of 1) new generation first year teething problems, 2) styling, and 3) practically zero-discounts on the new model. I test drove the TL-S back-to-back with the new TSX. What a blast! The TSX felt so light on its feet and eager to rev - reminded me of a playful pup. It brought back memories of my '95 Integra. The TL-S was exactly what I wanted though - a willing and capable partner when I felt like goosing the throttle, and serene and calm when I was in relax-mode. I wanted the Carbon Bronze, but no dealers in the area had one. I settled for the Kinetic Blue. This is just about the first chance I've taken to sit down and collect my thoughts. Already I've got the itch to go out for another drive again!

Congrats on the new ride! It's an awesome blend of power, performance and luxury at an affordable price for its class.

How long have you had the R1? My first motorcycle was a Yamaha FZ600. Sold it, then bought a CBR600F3. Sold that, then got a Superhawk. Then a (track-only) GSXR750. Sold the GSXR for a KTM450SMR (supermotard). Sold both the Superhawk and KTM for a Ducati 748. Sold the 748 and picked up a CBR900RR (1993!). I love 'em all, but I'm just too fickle.

I looked at the R1 but just couldn't justify getting another sport bike...after having two Ninjas. At 41, I'm more into nice, long distance rides on country roads...but I still love cornering as fast as possible and my FJR has no problems in that category. ![]()

I bought the R1 brand new, had a 1996 ZX-9 prior to that (actually had them both at the same time for a while before selling the 9). I picked up a 2001 F4i for a steal a few years back that I was gonna turn into a track bike but I had some guy offer me $1800 more than I paid the following week and sold it. I hardly ride anymore, I usually go up to the lake and ride my skis anytime I can get away.
General..... yeah the R1 is not the best long distance road bike compared to alot of others out there.... it is however a blast to ride though.

R1 isn't good at touring? Someone should have told that Aaron Frank character over at Motorcyclist. He tried a mini-Iron-Butt with an R1.
Although I'm currently bike-less, I've been looking at the Hypermotard more and more lately. Or an Ape Tuono. i <3 twins.

Looks pretty good, but it must be a rough ride.

The ride isn't too much rougher than before. The increased road noise is something I haven't dealt with in awhile and was a bit of a surprise. Accelerating definitely feels more labored, but I find myself taking it easy lately with the accelerator.

Nice TL-S are you going to get it tinted?

Funny you should ask; the car was tinted all around (~35% tint), except for the front windshield of course. I got a fix-it ticket a few weeks ago, so the front tint was removed for CHP-inspection.
The odd thing is, all my other vehicles have far darker tint than the TL-S had. Must be the Cal State LA license plate frame... ![]()
