New and looking to own my first TL

Hey guys. I'm in the market for my first TL and wanted to get some information from some to make the best choice I can.
  • What's the Difference between the normal TL, and the TL S, is it only a cosmetic differences or are their some performance differences aswell
  • Are the parts easily interchangable from the TL S to the TL
  • What's a fair price for the 3rd generation TL
  • Is the MT a little more powerful than the AT
I think that is all the question I have for you for now. Thank you also for any help..

Well, I can answer a few of your questions...

1) The Type S has about 30 more HP and a much stiffer suspension. Also, there are several interior and exterior differences, like wheels, gauges, seats, exhaust pipes, etc.

2) The MT is a little faster than the AT because of the gear ratio and weight difference.

As for the interchangeable parts, I guess it would depend on the parts. However, I'm not sure what difference it makes.

Thanks for the answers. Are there any common problems with this car or is it pretty reliable?

The '04 and '05 models had some minor issues but I believe they have all been worked out on the later models.

Honda is all about reliability!

Thanks for all the help. I'll be looking to buy next spring. If you find any good deals let me know ASAP. Untill than I'll be searching the internet for some. I'm looking for a white 6 spd with black interior and NAVI. So far tha average price is $18-$21K.

Hum...I don't think the white (WDP) comes with black interior. At least not on the '04.

Okay, that's fine. As long as the exterior is white or either that gunmetal color I'd be happy..

6 spd manual is very fast. It's much faster than the Auto.

But the 6spd Manual has 3rd gear synchro problems... the chance of getting that is 99.999999943561294054%, so yes, you are guaranteed to have that problem, unless, the previous owner replaced the tranny fluid with GM Friction Modified Synchromesh fluid. Another option is to have the dealer tear tranny apart and replace the 3rd gear synchro set....

I have no issues with my 3rd gear.

And, how do you see 4 tenths of a second as "much" faster?

You are one of the very very few people that are not having this problem. Also the '04 model seem a *little* better built... more Japanese parts used on that year than the '05 or '06.

Just because you are not getting the 3rd gear problem doesn't mean everyone else don't have to worry about. Go look in the acurazine thread under 3rd gen TL (well, actually the entire line up on Honda w/ manual tranny) and you will see thousands and thousands of MT owners having the problem, including myself....
