popping trunk?

Hey guys,

I just noticed recently that my pop truck button is not working... Anyone experience that before? I have to take my keys out my ignition and then use the pop trunk button on my alarm. I have no idea what this could be. A friend told me that it's possible that I could have a bluetooth virus? Is that even possible? Anything would help, in the end I might just take it to the dealership.

thx
Rob

Nope. No problems here. I would think though that if the car is in a gear other than Neutral or Park, the trunk should not open.

Definitely not a Bluetooth virus, LOL.

I don't have my owner's manual with me at the moment, but I seem to recall a lockout option intended for valet parking that would prevent them from accessing the trunk and glovebox. Check that section in your owner's manual, where it talks about the valet key.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a button/switch in the glovebox that disables the trunk button from working. The idea is you can lock that with your regular key, and since the valet key can't open the glovebox, your glovebox and trunk are both "safe". Double check the manual though

There's a trunk main switch in the glovebox, check it to see if it's in the "on" position. As mentioned above, switch to "OFF" to safeguard the contents of your trunk.

Now this is what forums are for! I was just about to take my TL in for a "broken" trunk release. I sop by here and find the simple solution was under my nose all the time. I had no idea that this switch was in the glovebox.

Quick, partially related question to all of you. I have the '07 TL and was wondering, when I push the trunk release button, the trunk lid just unlatches and moves up about 1 inch, but does not spring up all the way.
Just wondering if this is normal, or could my springs in the trunk lid be defective.
I've only owned the TL for about 1 week now, and other than this one little annoyance I love it!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, this is normal. I believe I read a few years ago that it's actually a safety feature to keep it from popping someone in the head or from hitting a low overhang.

the low lip and wing add-on kits come with new trunk springs. if you have these additions make sure your dealer installed the newer springs (many dealer dont bother because of laziness). if w/o the add-ons then its normal.

HELP please!!
I have an 2004 TL and I noticed that the trunk release doesn't work from within the car and I also checked for that switch in the glove compartment and it's on. If I take the key out from ignition and then press the trunk open button I HAVE TO MANUALLY open the trunk cause it's not popping up. I also noticed a that if I press my hand on the trunk when it's closed it balances up and down a little bit. It's like the lock doesn't hold it tight no more.
Please if anyone knows how to fix it let me know.

PS. I also read somewhere that it might be the actuator

Thankx Dan.

For all of you who want to know how to remove the trunk trim or the license frame you should take a look at this post:

Removing aluminum strip above rear license plate & trunk liner? 3G Garage #E-034 - AcuraZine Community

or click here

Hope that helps!

most likely yes. and from what you describe the lock mechanism might need adjusting. possibly both are related.
