Tinting Windows (Must Read, Free Moleskin)

So I had the tint done and so far am very happy. I think that it is a bit light but it is within the legal limits so I guess it is what it is!

The problem I had is that they broke a clip on the rear breaklight cover. Now the cover does not sit snug to the window allowing a lot of red glow into the window when the brake is applied. I spoke to the dealer about a replacement and he said that it would cost $52 to replace. Bummer. At least the installer said that he would cover thereplacement of the cover.

Just an FYI have the installer be very careful when they remove and replace the brake light cover!

I finally had my windows tinted. I went with ceramic Llumar films 35% all the way around. Pics attached. My car is NBP with Camel interior and I was afraid the 35% would be too dark. No way. In the bright sun I can see the interior very nicely and in overcast weather you can still see into the car although not as much. The attached pictures were taken on a cloudy day.

If anyone is in this area, I highly recommend Sams Window Tinting of Nanuet, NY. He did the felts, rear window in one piece, underneath the third brake light. Rear quarter windows were done underneath the window trim. Job was beautiful, very professional. The first pic gives a pretty good idea of the color but since I had to size the high-res picture to fit, it gets a little ziggy around the top of the door. So I clipped the window out of the pic and showed it full size:

Anyone with Navigation install metallic tints on their TL? If so, did you experience any problems with the Navi?

I've been searching high and low, and no one seems to carry the ceramic tints. I know that the metallic tints will supposedly interfere with the Navigation, but I was wondering if anyone had first hand experience with it.

My car was tinted at the dealership prior to me buying it. I seriously doubt they installed ceramic. Although, they do charge $299 for something I could have gotten for $120!

Anyways, I believe my tint is of the metallic variety, and I have no known issues with Navi. If there IS any degredation, I haven't had signals weak enough to make any difference.

I'm trying to get some input on this matter before I just go out and get the metallic tints on my Navi-equipped TL. I've had my car for about two weeks, and it's begging to get tinted.

Further feedback/commentary on the matter is greatly appreciated by all.

When they tint the windows on the TL, do they remove the decal on the window, such as the Acura TLC and the alarm sticker?

they should, you dont want extra crud under the film.

If you're really concerned, and you don't want to leave that up to chance, get a flat edge razor and take them off yourself, before bringing the car in for tint.

My car didn't have any stickers on the windows, so the tinter must have removed them prior.

oops, i meant to say on mine only the anti-theft stickers. the oem glass stuff (the black print) stayed on.

just want to update all on a few things:

1. i just ran out of molesking supply. i have to order up some more stock. one order came in about 4 days ago. i expect my stock to be in-house in just a few days... so please be patient.

2. there were soome reports of folks with moleskin and after a rain the insides of the windows would wipe wet when the window went down/up. my TL has been outside in the rain for last 3 days and i do not have this issue.

any one get moisture on the inside of the car when it rains after they got there car tinted with moleskin?

is there a fix for this problem?

I haven't done my tint yet, but plan on it soon. How's visibility with 35%? I'm reluctant to do it yet due to a intermitent grinding noise in the drivers door window the the dealer can't seem to fix. Any help?
