i would go elsewhere. do some homework and find a good tinter in your area, someone who is experienced, not lazy, and knows what moleskin is and why it's needed on a TL. most of the good guys hand cut every piece. all films are scratch "resistent" to some extent, but a TL needs moleskin felt. make sure when you get it done that they tint the quarter glass all the way, and you want your rear glass film to go under the 3rd brake light cover !

if you have a navi then you want a ceramic film like Huper Optik or Pinnacle Formula-One films. if non-navi then metallized films are less expensive, Solargard HP is one of the better metallized films.

if you have more questions or need me to speak to you tinter just let me know.

i dont think you'll find a real ceramic for $200.

Sunset CA ??

talk to this guy:
Alan Bray - info@abautosports.com
6320 Belleauwood Lane Suite1
Sacramento, CA 95822
Phone 916-391-2221
Fax 916-391-2220

if you have navi then you would want the Solargard NR True-Grey line. if non-navi get the HP line.

let me know if you need more help.
AK

...and BTW, i had paid $480 for HuperOptik on my TL, but it was then removed and Solargard HP38 was installed for $195 (actually cost me $295 because i had to pay $100 to have the old HO film removed from rear window)

use the dealer locator from http://www.solargard.com, there are a few listed in Atlanta but i cannot vouche for any of them. with navi i suggest you use the NR line of Solargard films.

if you want a true creamic film you will need to step into the more expensive lines of HuperOptik or Pinnacle's Formula-One films. use the dealer locator at the bottom of http://www.formulaone.com/, HuperOptik tinters are far and few, so if you do happen to find one make sure they have lots of experience with the film, otherwise just seek out Formula-One.

you will need to cold-call each and ask them a few basic questions like "have you tinted any 3G TL's before", and if they have then ask, "how much do you charge to install moleskin?", and if they give you the "huh, wtf is moleskin" on to the next dealer you go. also ask about the rear quarter glass, a good tinter can tint the whole thing with glass in the car, no if's and's or but's.

cheers
AK

they are both metallized films which may affect your navi. the "ultimate" performs slightly better than "comfort" series.

a light metallized film may not affect navi as much as a dark metallized film will.

any other shops around offering Pinnacle line??

Just dropped my TL off at the dealer. I showed them a couple of scratches on the driver's side window tint and told them about moleskin. They said the tint company said that it doesn't work and that I'll have to either live with it as is or have the tint removed at no cost. WTF???

they are full of shit. moleskin is standard practice in automotive tinting industry to avoid scratching. it's not a cure-all fix, but will drastically minimize any scratching.

the tint companies (i'm assuming the tint makers) know nothing about moleskin, all they know is how to layer ceramics and metals onto mylar films!! if a tinter said this then the tinter has no clue.

ask your dealer for the name and # of the tint person they called and i'll call them myself.

Ok, I just spoke with the dealer and they're telling me that the tint company said they've tried moleskin and other types of felt with no luck. They are claiming that dirt gets trapped with or without it and will eventually cause scratching. Same issues with Mercedes and Lexus. So, I am going to call them now and give them an earfull. If that doesn't work, you can try your luck if you like.

Well, I personally spoke with the tinting place. The guy said they were using Moleskin at the request of their tint distributor and that it didn't work for them. Tint was still scratching because of dirt that had collected on the felt. Also, they said the felt even added more pressure to the window. Whatever. What's more, they also said the rear quarters can not be fully tinted like yours. Hum...

If you want to call them, here's their info, however, I don't think it will do any good.
