Use the Honda brand. I have been told that any Mercon III rating will work fine, but Acura is clear in their instructions to use their brand.

I just got my 06 MT w/ 48K back from the dealer after replacing 2nd and 3rd gear synchro's and it still shifted like crap. I replaced the Acura fluid with GM Synchromesh the next day and it made a huge difference, car shits like butter now.. well worth the 35.00.. local GM dealer had it in stock, either that or order it online.

FYI... The local Firestone shop that I use for routine maintenance would not use anything other than Acura fluid (not even Honda) because there is a warning on the tranny.

Anyone used any of the aftermarket synthetic fluids, like Royal Purple, RedLine, or BG?

You do realize that there is only Honda fluid, right? The Z1 bottles are all labeled 'Honda' regardless of whether or not you get it an an Acura dealership. And they don't even make it themselves--they just bottle with their label.

What I meant was, the Honda dealerships around here don't sell the tranny fluid required, only the Acura dealers do.

That's weird. I buy my Z1 from the Honda dealership because it's closer and cheaper.

While I was at the Firestone place, they called three different Honda dealers and none of them carried it. About a week later I received a coupon in the mail from my Acura dealer for 10% off tranny fluid change...so I went there instead.

Use only Honda branded ATF or MTF. There are specific additives for your tranny in those fluids. Using other brands will result in pre-mature failure of transmission components.
