What oil do you use?

Hey guys, I was just wondering what type of oil you put in your TLs. I like to use 5W-20 full synthetic and I'm at 60k miles.

I was listening to Car Talk on the radio this past weekend...and they were talking about using something other than the manufacturer's recommend viscosity, which is usually 5w-20 these days. They did not recommend it. They claim that with all of the testing that's done these days, 5w-20 has been found to perform the best...year round The days of using a thinner oil in the winter and thicker oil in the summer are over.

I don't recall them mentioning anything about standard versus synthetic, but they did say that modern standard oils can be used for 4k miles with no issues.

Wait so they didn't recommend it but it's found to perform the best? I'm confused

Car Talk did not recommend using something other than the manufacturer's 5w-20 recommendation. In other words...stick with 5w-20.

i've been going 10k miles with valvoline full synth on my corolla. these oils have plenty of additives in them to go the distance (as do most off-the-shelf synths),...... what you have to watch is the engine contaminants. Blackstone is my friend these days.
