New thread notifications
I have a suggestion for a code modification.
![]() Now, I understand that there are both pros and cons to this, but oh well. I think it would be nice to have the option of being notified of new threads by email. It looks like we have that option now (the subscribed threads thing in myAW) but it does not work. I understand that the volume of emails being sent out for the Lounge would be too high to implement this for that forum, but the car forums would work. Cons: Doing this would lower the number of non-referral visits. Email volume would increase significantly.Just my thoughts. ![]() |

Thanks for the suggestion...
I have no idea of what to do with it tho , since I don't know how far along our slow migration to the new version of the site's software is going... a lot of new things will be added with this new software...I just replied so that it would look like somebody is looking at this area... ![]() no, but seriously, someone will see this and consider it, they just may not get to it for a while. ![]()

Haha...I noticed before I posted that I was the last poster.....it is quite a quite area of the site.
Hey, if the site were powered by Perl I would just code the additions out for you guys and hand them over. BUT, no...it's PHP. ![]() |

HOLD UP....why does the transition to the new version have to be slow???
I have done alot of modifications to YaBB (a perl message board) and the way that it is set up is that the Source Code is kept in a totally separate area of the cgi-bin from the User files, variables, and posts. I have not studied the architecture of vBulletin but if I am not mistaken the variables and such are all contained in an SQL database for efficiency. So can't you just update the scripts and point them to query the existing DB??? ...sorry my nerdyness is for sure coming through. SQL and Perl are awesome and I work with both alot. I trust that you guys will do just fine. ![]() |

problem is that this is a really highly customized vbulletin board. eesh...the hacks we have on here are just endless and the conversion to vb3 isn't too easy but will allow us to moderate a little better and let us install some new things we want to try out. applications for us, vendors, and for members.
in addition we're redesiging the site, the structure, navigation, content....we're redoing everything. i've used yabb, phpbb, invision, and vbulleting and vbulletin seems to work out the best for us by far as a moderator. as a general user, i think it does great too only b/c we've hacked it all to hell. yes, we've been wanting this for almost a year now....but we're all so buy outside of this site it's hard to move forward sometimes....it's just easier to spend that time devoted to the site moderating, spending time with members, and reading all the information. |

I agree, YaBB does not touch vbulletin when it comes to out of the box functionality. I learned Perl when I was 11. Here I am 6 years later still coding Perl and working as an L2 Admin working intensively with Perl, SQL and DHTML. They have me coding websites, and the backends and server-side apps for them. :/
I know how you feel, coding is a task most people flip a bitch about after the first pesky syntax error. |

...almost 18.
and I want to stress that for those of you who think my parents donated a damn dime to my car, or gas....you can stick it. I paid/pay for all of that and they help with the insurance. You have a problem with the youthful ones here on AW?!?! haha! |

Haha....I was not accusing you of accusing me of anything. I guess it is just that pride of ownership.
Yeah, getting stuff from parents is awesome, but the TSX is a little large to shove under the christmas tree. PLUS...I would get sap all over it ![]() As for your age...you can't be that old twice my age is 34. That is not bad at all. Plus...you have something that I aspire towards--The "acuraworld.com_**** mod" thing in your sig. ![]() |

![]() and... the AW mod sig is pretty cool ![]() I wear it as a badge of honor... If I could, I'd let the other mods pin the sig to my bare chest as part of an elaborate initiation/hazing ritual...

Hey, at 17 and buying a car from the money out of your own pocket gets lots of respect from me! It wasn't until 22 when I was able to buy my first car, and it was only a Civic, far from a TSX!
