Car 1: 1999 Acura Integra
1999 Acura Integra GS

Hey everyone. I just got a 1999 Integra GS from a friend who owns a shop. He sold me the Integra for $400. I'm going to take pictures of the car tonight, but it has exterior damages and 350,000KM on it. I'm not sure if anyone can answer this but how many more KM does this car have left in it? Thanks for any answers.

that's a vague question, it all depends on the condition/use/abuse that the car has gone through...

it's very hard to place a number, not trying to be rude, but I'm just afraid no one is going to have an answer for you.

Yeah really, it definitely depends on the condition and upkeep of the motor, if you were going to do a stock rebuild on it as soon as you pick it up then I would say easily more than twice the current life of the motor as long as you keep the maintenance up on it. Given that it has significant body damage I would say the previous owner(s) didn't take great care of it and so probably not too awful long. Though you'd be surprised with how much a honda engine can take before calling it quits.

Yeah, sorry about the lack of details. I just picked it up last night and I don't know much about cars, and he doesn't know the history of the car either. So maybe the better question I should ask is, what should I look for as indicators as to the condition of the vehicle? Are there some tests I could do myself, or that I should go and get done on the car? Thanks again for the answers.

For $400? If it runs at all I would say that it's a good deal...

Here are some photos of the engine, not sure if they will be helpful.

Does it run? Clean it up, tune it up, change the timing belt and water pump, etc.

That many Kms and your guess as to life is as good as mine. If it runs smooth and doesn't burn oil or lose coolant, it should be good for a while.

Thanks for the reply. It does run, and I intend on getting it tuned up and changing the timing belt. I had no intention of changing the water pump, but I'll add that to the list of things to get checked by the mechanic. Is there a test I can do myself to see if it is burning oil or losing coolant. It has been parked for a few days and there have been no leaks on the driveway, so that's a good sign, right?

What are bushings, and how can I tell if they are shot? Thanks again for all the answers.

Water pump is an essential part of the timing belt schedule in any Honda product.

Bushings will be driving down the road and hearing a constant "squeeky, squeeky, squeeky" sound from your suspension.

Check the coolant and oil levels frequently, and if you have to add between scheduled oil changes or cooling system maintenance, then you have an issue that needs to be addressed.

Good luck and have fun. These are awesomely fun cars to drive.

I'm hearing that from the front driver-side tire. I'll get that looked into.

The interior is pretty well kept, with all the power features working. The exterior, however, has seen better days. This is the worst case of rust on the car. There is general rust in other areas, but this one I would really like to address first. I have the door guard to place over the holes, but need to get this rust fixed first. So, will I need the entire panel replaced, or could something else be done? I intend on taking it to a shop but don't want to be ripped off.

I was just thinking that when I saw it. Was that thing ever in a wreck?

You have some significant damage going on with that one side. You need to have a shop check out the suspension for damage or worn parts that are causing that toe out.
