93' 2nd Gen timing belt question.

I bought my Integra from a friend who took meticulous car of his toys and kept very accurate records, but there was no record for the last time the belt was replaced so I was curious if any 2nd Gen geniuses knew what kind of belt this is? Is it a 60K or a 100K. Really hoping for the latter but ready to accept the former. I will be changing the oil soon and will be taking the cover off at the same time to check the condition of it, but still I'm curious. Anyone know?!?!

First interval is at 95-105k miles, then every 90k or 7 years. Belts become brittle over time and wear with use. Timing belts generally just snap without any sign of wear/tear. Although if it is obviously worn replace it but if it looks okay, it's tough to know.

Something to keep in mind is that all B-series engines are interference engines.

Interference engine? That means piston/valve correct? Sorry man, I come from a bike background where belts are actually chains and big bore mean 1200+ cc's. Car motors are a little different so please don't laugh! I'm inept! I think I'm going to replace the belt as soon as I find a manual and belt on the Ebay...

Does anyone know where I can find a factory manual or chiltons for my model for cheap?!?!? Or for that matter a belt? Definitely don't want the car to goto junk!

Thank god for (http://www.2ndgen.info/doityours.shtml)!!! It even had a service manual! If only it had a timing belt DIY... I'll learn while I do it!

Oh yeah, for anyone who wants to know, according to the manual the service limit is 72K on the timing belt. Which means I'm running on borrowed time...

Thanks Tegger! Much apperciated! I noticed there where some D.I.Y. for some things with nice illustrated pictures (i'm illiterate as you can plainly read) but there were no pretty pictures or info for DIY timing belts? Is it really worth taking to a mechanic? I have a good friend who works on diesel motors for a living and I'm sure he would be able to help me with this, but does the car need "special" tools and services that some "DIY'ers" can't do?

PS-I can take a bike to pieces and reassemble it. Never done a car before though... they're a little more intricate.

The crankshaft pulley bolt is the most difficult part of doing the timing belt. If you have the tool then you'll be golden.

DIY for 3rd gen (still b-series): http://www.team-integra.net/sections...ArticleID=1044

Intereference engine = Piston // valve will collide once the TB goes.

Use this site for parts:http://www.sonsacuraparts.com/sons/j...&ListAll =All

All parts are oem and $43 for a timing belt in a Honda bag is Cheap.

Food, your officially my hero for today! I think I can find a crank puller at a local O'rielly's auto parts store and rent it for free! I wonder if they'll have one for anything besides American junk-mobiles.

...

43.14!!! Hell Yes! Will of course need a new pump and tensioner (thank god for manuals!) but should be taking care of this problem ASAP! Will be posting pictures too!

The water pump will have to be replaced when I do this? Ouch! There goes another $100! You got to pay to play though! Oh yeah, the D.I.Y. guide that you posted the link of above will work for me too? I have a B-series? I think I have the B-18, I'll check tonight. I know it's not a V-tec so it must be an 18 correct? And it's the sam motor as the 94'+'s? What years did the use the same motor in?

Actually, what you will be looking for is an OEM Honda Crankshaft pulley holder. There's all sorts of tricks to get the Bolt off but 7/10 people get stuck on the CS bolt. You could go to honda specific shops and give them $20 or so bucks to rent it from them.

Yes that guide will work for your car (b18b1/a), the alternator or certain bolts around the block might be different but the important parts are there in that guide.
