Jermy's project
I have a few questions, and i know ill have alot more soon so i figure i had better make a project thread for all my crap.
The car -1992 acura integra 2d LS -162k miles -Automatic -Carbon fiber hood, Montegi rims, CAI -Purchased $700 **What we thought was a transmission problem turned out to be a borken cv joint. Theres alot i want to do to the car but i need to get it running right for me to drive as a daily driver. Pics are attached I put in the carpet and foam in the back to try and get rid of some of the road noise. Did help a good bit and i like it more than bare metal. My current problem. The Idle is rough and loud, and not just the idle. When im driving and take my foot off of the gas the whole car shakes. Its very aggrivating and I have found a few things to try and see if itll solve my problem but im curious to know if this is common on these cars to ride like this? Road in a friends honda civic (close year) and it was smooth as a babys bottom compared to my acura. Projects- Most people probably dont care bout this kinda stuff. But I posted for those who do. Dont just say "thats stupid" .. say "thats stupid Because...." -CAI box? I know alot of manufactorers are putting cover boxes of there air intake systems and i was thinking about building one for mine. Has anyone else done something like this? Pics? comments? -Solar Powerd Ac? Something i thought of on my own time fidling with ideas. I plan on taking a few solar panels and placing them on the interior of the sunroof, between the glass and the interior cover. To use this power so I can have the blower fan while the car is off. Its hot, so this might work.. might not... but i plan on finding out. -Insulation The back half is done, foam was placed inside of all panels to keep from rattling. Foam and carpet was laid down on the trunk to keep out road noise and becuase I find it looks good.

Thats a great looking DA you have there. Thanks for keeping it clean looking and focusing on the important things, like getting the car running correctly before going out and asking about turbo kits and that stuff.

solar power eh? sounds very interesting altho I wonder if those panels will be enough to supply the AC, what type of battery do you plan on storing the power? or are you going to use the solar panels to keep your current battery charged?
very interesting and unique idea, I'd like to see something come from this. also +1 to getting the car running in top shape and taking care of it before deciding to go all out please stop by 2nd Gen (For 2nd Gen Tegs) and post your progress over there as well (don't find too many clean 2nd gen tegs these days)! |

I wonder if an array of solar panels could produce the same amount of electricity that an alternator could....... Obviously wouldn't work at night. But could work for a car that you drive to work during the day. Cloudy days could be an issue too though..... hamster power for a backup system?

The Solar powered a/c wouldnt be set up as a constant source... not the plan yet anyway.
Its more for when the car is turned off sitting in the parking lot i can set up a switch that would run the blower motor. I'm not all that familiar with Solar set ups, but i know the basics and I need to figure out if i should use a big battery or if i would even need a battery at all at first. If it did run the whole a/c set up it would run a motor that would turn the compressor. I dont know how strong that would have to be though. It could go in the place of the Windsheild washer water supply. It would also have to run the blower motor for the fan. Compressor motor? 2 HP HOME/HOBBYIST ELECTRIC MOTORS and the A/c Blower motor is 12V. Thats a ways down the line though. I needa put some work into the body first. dents dings and then paint. If you cant tell, the front bumper will probably have to be replaced, unless i can straighten it out engough to fiberglass it back. I really need to know about the idle problem though.

wtf? ur engine is rattling on ur hood??? my 92' integra's engine didnt vibrate on my hood, the only time my 92' would "vibrate" was when i came to a stop...but id say it was more of a vibration then a rattle. mine was an automatic as well
valve cover was probably sanded and re powder coated red, i did that on my 92' =) costed me about $90 other then the damage on the front bumper id say u have a very nice integra there ![]() |

I honestly wouldnt know if its been painted, i bought it like that. A friend told me alot of them were like that.
I know its hitting the hood because theres rub marks on the engine and on the hood. Ill have to take a close up picture to show you guys. ...ill have to check to mounts too while im at it. The pics look alot better than the car, exterior at least. but thank you. I havent even had the chance to wash her yet. Im really considering doint a rustoleum paint job though... cheap, easy, self leveling. $100 compared to $500.

I've always been a fan of well done rattlecan jobs. Honestly I've always wanted to use that rubberized undercoat stuff for a non-smooth finish on the paint once its done. Dunno how it would look honestly but it would be unique.

how would you turn the compressor with the engine off, wouldn't the belt pose an issue? or is the idler pulley independent from the compressor pulley?

Theres a clutch that goes between the pulley and the compressor. I don't know how that would help you though without knowing exactly how its all put together. There might be some way to spin the compressor by putting a rod through a hole in the pulley but then when the pulley engages and spins the compressor you would also be spinning the electric motor. I'd bet that it would be easier to go all electric and be able to switch between electric sources from the battery to the solar panels and back.

The secondary purpose of doin this is to take some of that strain off the motor. although if i did want to leave it connected to the motor i would have to add a clutch or something like that to the rod so that it would only turn the compressor if its not being spun by the belt. could be set up easily with a switch or put some time in it and make it automatic.
