Newbies Project thread

Hey guys,
as some of you know I am a total newbie to upgrading cars and such. So I am starting a project thread! I am currently saving up for some parts while buying basics, ill give you all the run down later in the thread. Any advice or help would be great, I have an idea of which parts to get already thanks to rewsintegra.

Here's my baby- 98 LS Integra- She has 150k miles on her, but I had an engine swap(stock) recently so im at about 30k now.

Here is my parts list so far-

Ordered and on the way-

Exhaust kit*here!
Headers
Front and rear upper Tie bars
Cold air Intake
Bypass Valve*here!

I am currently saving up for-
Tein coils or Tokico struts and Eibach springs from Modacar.com
JDM PowerChamber Intake- I just bought my cold air intake when I saw this and thought damn, i should have saved my money. These things look boss.

Future buys-
Maybe a turbo kit or LSVtec Conversion

5/9/08 Today my headers came in the mail. They are basic Megan Racing headers, not very expensive, I plan to spend the real money on my suspension. Hence the saving and such.

My buddy is going to help me install it once the exhaust system gets here

The Bypass valve is in! Its a universal 2.75 inch but it looks massive.

Now Im just waiting on the intake....
I got the intake in the mail.
UPDATE****INSTALLED CAI This weekend I will install the rest of my breathing ups. Thursday I will install some strut braces (rear and front underside)
UPDATED 5/13/08 I installed the CAI! It was a bitch! taking out the old air reservoir was a pain in the ass. If I was a seasoned mechanic I'm sure it wouldnt have been so tough, but I had never taken the front of my car off before. It was a cool experience and I cut my finger but its kinda cool cuz im sure you all have done the same haha. It was kind of wobbly and I couldnt figure out how to mount it with the two pieces of sheet metal they gave me, the team integra forums had a thread about it, but that was little help when it came to mounting so I just ghetto rigged it together. Otherwise a pretty clean install! I dig it! Now I just need a quality air filter!

UPDATE**5/28
Yesterday my pops and I installed the header and catback exhaust and the lower strut brace! It was fun but took almost six hours!
So we started with this-

and we started taking it apart

and my dad is laughing at my ghetto cold air rig up

jacking the car up-

Then we freed up the caty-

and put the parts aside-

Got the new parts ready-

and started hookin it up!

and presto changeo

Right before the exhaust we went to work to install the rear lower strut brace-

This was harder than all the other upgrades because when you remove the LCA nut the whole thing kind of pops our of the joint/area around it and you have to maneuver it back in just right to put the bolt back in and its harder than hell because it weighs like a million pounds. But we eventually got it in and ziptied the brake lines to it. tightened everything down and bam, you have you it.

Rustoleum paintjob-
cost-40 bux for paint and like 20 for all the sandpaper and bondo
its no factory car paint finish but it looks so much nicer than it did before! yay!

Now I just need to put the front lower and buy the upper front and upper rear tie bars!

I ordered a front and rear upper tie bar, Mugen and Type R, and also a Lower H Brace- They should be in within the week. Here are some updated pics from the Rustoleum paintjob, 2 coats of white with a 600 grit wetsand and some turtlewax

Hope you enjoyed my little show so far. more to come soon, stay tuned!

Stay tuned guys, If anyone has any parts they would like to donate or sell to me please throw me a PM, and thanx for looking guys, all advice or info is appreciated! Integra FTW!

Also for anyone who cares, will these parts make my car not smog legal?

if you car gets inspected and the header and intake don't have a carb number then it will not pass, but just a general smog test where they check pollutants and such, it should pass.

looks good so far, I think I may have some parts around I'll check.

there is a local company that does a similar intake to the PasswordJDM, they are called Memory Fab. Here is a pic of it on an Integra at the T-I meet, it looked great and sounded good. (That's my filthy baby to the left, I guess it's time to update my sig)

yeah, I'm debating making the drive down sunday to pick one up before my auto cross.

as for getting the screw off your LCA's, just buy a breaker bar, it'll come in handy throughout the build up.

Yeah if the cop/chp ask you to pop open your hood, and you have a header that is not carb legal you might end up going to the state ref.

I had to go because of my aem cam gears, I misplaced the cover, I was hoping the cop didn't see it, I do have a dc header with the carb stamp, but they (the state ref) will also check if that carb number is legit.

will a breaker bar help pull those screws off? I have a socket wrench and i couldnt get them to budge. There is some kind of screw stuff i can spray on to loosen it up right? My friend told me that integras and hondas have a welded on LCA screw. please say it aint so! LOL

a breaker bar will help you get more leverage on that bolt, just be sure you buy the appropriate socket. there are liquids you can buy to help loosen the bolt, i can't testify to their validity, I got frustrated and bought a breaker bar, lol. The LCA bolts aren't welded in, with enough pressure they will come out.
