Oil Pan Gasket question

So I'm pretty sure the oil pan gasket on my teg is on the way out, and I'm thinking it should be a pretty straightforward job, but I was just wondering: is it pretty much the same thing as a valve cover gasket, where you just pop the pan off, peel out the old gasket, and put the new one in with some gasket seal? It doesn't seem like there would be much more to it, but I want to get some feedback on doing it yourself before I have to spend a couple grand at a shop for them to do it!

Is it as simple as it seems? Anything I should watch out for?

When I replaced the oil pan gasket on my last teg, I had to remove the whole header to get access to the pan. Once you got the header out, everything else is cake. Remember to put some sealant for the gasket, it will prevent it from moving around when installing it back in.

what he said, remember the sealant on the gasket, I am dealing with a persistent leak because i didn't put any on with the gasket, and I really don't feel like pulling down my header to get at it, maybe when I change it over to an after market one.

Torque specs for the bolts is 10 ft.lbs (14 Nm). Also take the bolts off in a criss cross pattern, vice versa. Got it from the Chilton manual.

I think they're pretty much always measured in lb-ft.

Yeah, its lbs-ft. For some reason, the manual refers it to ft.lbs.

I have a Fel-Pro gasket if you're interested. $10 shipped. I think I paid $20 at Autozone for it. Considering my teg is gone now, I don't plan on using it. Fits... B18C1, B18C5, B18A1, B18B1
