Old member, looking for a new baby... a Teg
What's up. Some of you know me, some of you don't. I'm a long time member (check the post count) and a mod on the RSX side. A while ago I sold my RSX because I didn't need a car. Now I may be needing a car again. I'm hoping to keep it reasonable so I want to get a used Teg.
I need your help. What should I look for? I'm thinking GS-R? I want a coupe, manual tranny... decent power (I know it won't be my rsx, but I don't want to feel like a slug). Any years I should look for? Anything I should lookout for (3rd gear grind in the rsx, etc)? Any help is appreciated. Also, with a good I/H/E setup what can I expect? Thanks! Kevin

Kevin, from what I learned last summer, the best bet is to not be real concerned with mileage. These things are getting old enough that finding low miles is really tough and you will pay through the nose to get one.
GSRs bring a premium in our area as well as on the West Coast. When you go to make the decision, your best bet is to find one that is as close to stock as you can possibly find, the interior is clean and well cared for without a lot of wear, and the body is straight and clean.

Get it stock if at all possible, that way it's less likely to have been thrashed. If you can, I'd say stick with the newer ones (98-01) especially, cause it'll be easier to find those in good shape and with lower miles. They've also got the newer front end and taillights that look a lot better than the 94-97, IMO.As far as issues...make sure to check gaskets for leaks on the higher-mileage ones, and if it's got a sunroof, check that out to make sure it works right and doesn't leak. Same goes for the hatch, my old hatch used to leak water a bit. |

I'm looking in the $5k range. I'm not too concerned about mileage as I'm only planning on having it a year or two and not putting too many miles on it.

Here's one I found that I'm heavily considering. It's in teh same town my parents live in and I asked the guy if I could test drive it and he said no problem.
I know it needs some work, but for a DD with a little care it could be fun.

Oringinal timing belt?!?! At 140k+ miles, get ready to do that before disaster strikes.
If the prices doesnt go much higher, it could be a pretty good deal. Especially if you can do the work yourself.

Aside from the belts being wicked old, that's a sweet deal. Maybe you can use the t-belt as a negotiating tool too. |

Price hasn't gone up... I find out tonight if I need a car for sure, so if I do I'll probably go test drive it this week.

Kev, I had a `94 LS before I got the RSX and it was a great car. Not as fast as the RSX, but almost as much fun to drive. I agree with Rew - it's a more "raw" feel than the RSX. The biggest problem I had - and what really drove me to sell it - was the rust that was starting to bubble the paint behind the rear tire wells. I live in PA / NJ and they drop salt on the road at the mere mention of snow.
I bought mine pre-owned in 97, with 31,000 miles on it - and sold it in `06 with about 197,000 miles on it. And, it's still running as the kid next door bought it. Of course, he put a turbo on it at 200,000 - and did some damage that forced an engine swap - but it's still running with the rebuilt motor in it. Never had any problem with the clutch or gearbox (it still had the original clutch when I sold it). The seats were showing their age, but it was 13 years old. Good luck - I hope that you find what you're looking for. It'll be nice to have you "back" in the Acura Family again. Better idea - fly out to Vegas and steal the RSXtreme from you know who ![]()
