Car 1: 96 Integra GS-R
Type R ECU swap in a GS-R

Hi guys new to the site and to the turner community, looks like a great site, I'm very happy to be a part of it Now on to the question, I have a 96 integra GS-R with a few aftermarket performance parts. I also have a ECU from a same generation Type R that I'm thinking about swapping out with the stock GS-R one that's in it now. What I'm wondering is will it make a noticeable difference and also will I run the risk of damaging anything on the engine from doing so? Thanks for taking the time to read my post and offering up and facts or opinions in advance.

Welcome to AW. I don't think it's a very good idea to swap the ECU for a Type R one... the ECU is made for a Type R engine and I can easily imagine that it can damage your GSR engine.

and Welcome to the Turner community

Thanks guys for the warm welcome! This is good to know, thanks for the input. Now I know this is going to be a very noob question to reply with but in my racing games(they're what inspired me to go out and get a turner) lol, they have u upgrade the ECU so thats where I got the idea from. The guy I bought the ECU from said he had it in his 96 GS-R and had great results(though it's wrecked now lol) I didn't want to put it in mine until I got some feedback from some more experienced car people. What kind of damage do u guys think would be a result of doing this swap?

That ECU will allow you to rev 200 rpm higher, other than that I don't think theres much of a difference.... The ITR doesn't have a 2 stage intake manifold but I don't remember if thats controlled through the ECU directly. If it were me, I would probably skip it.

there is a reason why honda made the type r ecu for the type r and the gsr ecu for the gsr. now maybe if you had a type r IM, cams, pistons, rods, VS, and retainers then you could go with a type r ecu.

also remember video games are video games.

There are minimal gains to be made by just swapping out the ECU as there are a few items that the ECU does not control, such as the dual running IM. Fuel mapping is slightly more aggressive vs. gs-r and that's where your gains are going to be from. If you swapped type r components into your gs-r, it'll still be within the GS-R parameters except for intake manifold.

The idea of what you're trying to do is like saying "I have a farrari ecu, will swapping this out make my car go faster?"

You're ecu is like a math book. Until you've built up enough knowledge to upgrade to volume 2, you're current book will suit you fine.

Much research i see in your future.

I don't see why douche bags feel the need to talk condescendingly to others on forums like these, I mean the point of them is to get together with people and share ideas, pics, and information. If you don't have anything of relevance to say then why post in here. I mean did I ask for a smartass response to a a completely regular question....no. Keep your I'm better then you cuz I know more attitude to yourself. Thanks

Was that aimed at any one of us or was that more of a general statement?

It was a general statement aimed at anyone who behaves in such a manner. I'm very respectful and don't appreciate people who feel the need to talk down to others and be a smartass cuz they have more info in one area of their lives. Anyways it definitely wan not aimed at you(C25A1guy) cuz of the 2 questions I've had so far you've been the most helpful. Thanks again.
