Fall 2008 navigation DVD updates are here!

For the '05-'08 MDXs (white disc) version info:

v4.6X (old):
-Database: 4.62A (03/17/07)
-Software: 1.64.00

v4.73A (new):
-Database: 4.73A (I think 05/10/08)
-Software: 1.82.01

Alpine has changed the database version from the date the map data was finalized (as it was on earlier versions) to just the update version. However, by looking at the contents of the disc, I believe the map data was finalized on 05/10/08.

The software update is obviously very minor, if any. I didn't see any differences, and it might just be an incremental version because it is a new disc.

What's really unusual about this update is they sent a patch disc along with it as well. If you have an '05 RL or MDX (or an '05 Honda Odyssey or '06 Honda Ridgeline) with a white label disc version 4.20 or older, you need to run the patch disc before installing the disc for the first time.

I'm not sure what bug they found/fixed, but it looks like as long as you currently have version 4.31 or newer then this patch doesn't apply, regardless of what vehicle you have.

No. The interface will be the same. You can change the color of the display but that's it. The new discs just give minor software tweaks/bug fixes and map/POI database updates.

so from what i gather for both my 05 MDX and 05 Accord EX (navigation discs are not interchangeable) there is no update for alabama, i am tired of all the unverified messages. my friend has an 08 honda and has no messages. this acura navigation isnt in the same level as my garmin or tom tom. no correction for errors either... is there any value in upgrading if your state isnt mentioned.

When you update a disc, regardless of the 'color' disc, they all share the same database. So if your friend has an '08 Honda with the latest version disc in his color, if you update to the latest version disc in your color, you should each have the same database for both maps and POIs. The only difference is that each navigation system may have software features/enhancements unique to that system that is not shared across platforms.

Upgrading Navigation 2001 MDX

I just purchased the newest upgrade disk (2.60 Black label) for my 2001 MDX. Could anyone give me instructions on how to load it and upgrade my navigation system. Thanks.

It's very simple: have the vehicle running and out in an open area (not in a garage or parking garage), eject the old disc from the drive (under the front seat) and then insert the new disc. The screen will say it's loading and a status bar will show you when it is complete. Then, just drive on any verified road (the street name will show up) before attempting to plot a destination for the first time.

The '99s used a hard disk for the navi data and can only be updated by the dealer. I've heard that some dealers don't even have the hardware/software to do the updates any more since the car is 10 years old. However, supposedly the DVD unit from the '00-'03 TLs is a direct plug-and-play replacement and it might be worth finding one on eBay or in a junkyard and just installing that. Then you can buy the update discs like everyone else.

On the California updates...are the only areas affected?

-Central Valley - including Fresno, Merced, Modesto and Stockton
-Humboldt
-Mammoth Lakes

Are there minor updates to other cities?
