2000 RL noise when braking

My 2000 RL seems to have a clunk noise come from the front whenever i brake. It really only happens when the car is in the D4 gear but has only happened once or twice in D3. I don't know what that could mean but the dealer I went to seems to think it's the front calipers and pads. Has anybody had a similar problem to this or know what the problem might be?

well if it only happens in a few gears it could be your calipers or it could also be a bad motor/tranny mount

you should take your front tires off and have a look at the calipers and pads, see if theres any bolts missing from the calipers and also check ur motor/tranny mounts just incase cuz my front motor mount in my integra was bad and it used to do that

It could be a sticking caliper, especially if you haven't had a brake service done in some time.

If it was doing this only going say from reverse to drive, it would be a pin lubrication issue. You need to narrow this down a bit though. Can you feel the clunk in the brake pedal as well as hear it?

I can't really feel the clunk through the brake pedal. I don't know if that makes it non brake related. I thought it might be the tie rod ends since they've never been changed and the car has a little more than 100k miles on it but I wasn't sure. This noise has only started this past winter. I have never heard it during the summer.

Best to get the car looked at. It's very hard to guess what might be happening there, but whatever it is, it doesn't sound like the car is safe to drive.

I am still having the same clunking problem and I wanted to go into a little more detail on my problem. Their is a click/clunk sound i hear sometimes when I first put the car into reverse (in the mornings or when i first start the car), the clunk sound when I'm braking happens around the same time every time (around 18-20 mph) and their is sometimes a clunking sound when i let off the throttle at low speeds or apply power. I do not know if they are related or not.
When I had taken the car in to the dealership they had said it might have been the brakes. Since then I have replaced the front rotors and pads with no change. I have also been told that it might be the cv joints. I myself thought it might be related with sway bar bushings or tie rod ends.
I have taken it to 2 dealerships and there are no other dealerships close by.
Is there is anything else i could try in order to fix this. The noise seems to be coming from the front. It sounds like it may be from the passenger side but not sure.

Can you feel this clunk through any part of the vehicle, such as the brake pedal, steering wheel, seat, etc, or is it just audible? This can be a good indicator of the affected system.

I have begun to notice that I occasionally feel a slight movement in the brake pedal when this noise occurs. The dealership had checked the engine mounts. Would I be able to tell if the engine or transmission mounts were bad just by looking at them?

What you have seems like a clunk in the brakes, where the caliper slide pins are either dry from lack of lubrication, or have a small ridge of corrosion that they go past when you apply the brakes.

Naturally this is simply a first guess. When was the last time your vehicle had a brake service performed?
