Car 1: 2000 tl
Fuel Consumption Drop

I have a 2000 tl, 81,000 km.and I check my mileage on a regular basis. Shortly after change to new tires (same make and model as on the vehicle) and put in a K&N filter, my mileage has gone down some 20%. Car runs well, smooth idle, everything fine. Went back to original filter, no difference.

Any suggestions as to what might have happened (perhaps precipitated by the use of the K&N filter with increased air flow) or what I should check next.

My dealer had really no suggestion other than I might try changing the plugs.... there has been a few articles about increased air flow making some sensors not operate correctly ...is there any validity to this?

Any help appreciated.

Colin

Anything like that would have tripped a check engine light. Could be the brand of fuel, or maybe your service station is short-tanking you? Hard to say here....

Tried different brands of fuel (all premium, no ethanol content). Measurement by actual liters filled and distance traveled, keep fairly accurate records. Any other tips or suggestions appreciated.
