First off, I would like to say thanks for the great site

now to one of my concerns regarding a previous question.

Quote:
ok, so im still confussed now. is it ok to run 7500 miles on amsoil 5030 with a fram x2 filter?
by TunerTL-S

Fram oil filters in general are of much lower quality then many of the competitors out there. They are constructed with paper end caps that are glued on, which degrade. Maybe the x2 filter is different. I do not know if I want to trust my engine to company that has had several recalls on their filters.
I would stick with the upper level on filters. Be it a Honda/Acura oem, Mobil, Amsoil and I am sure there are others. I do not have my sources in front of me, but the three listed above have metal endcaps.

Oil argument aside, a good filter is a must!!!!

coloRL,

i agree, majority of fram filters i wouldnt recommend but i found a comparison test stating x2 is up to standards compared to mobil one and amsoil filters. reason i went with x2 cause its readily available compared to the others. price wise, they all run around 12 dollars.

With regard to your comment that extended drain synthetics is "cutting corners"....NOW YOU HAVE THE IDEA. Its all about saving dollars and getting superior engine protection at the same time.

Let me get into the area of the 3000 mile oil change and your explanation of the financial implications to the Dealership. Pardon me...but this is Bull#$@%. Are you saying that Dealerships change oil at little to no profit because they are such good guys? Retailing is all about getting people into the store. Having customers strolling around the Dealership drooling over the new cars can't be bad for business. This is simply retailing 101....and the same principle applies to Walmart, Sears, grocery stores or auto dealerships. Back to the myth of the 3000 mile or 3 month oil change. The American consumer has had this concept pounded into them for over 30 years. We continue to march down to our favorite oil change establishment like sheep when our odometers or calendars tell us its time. Our technology and experience has provided us with a superior alternative (Synthetic lubricants) to this insane practice. Superior economically, environmentally and technically. You have repeatedly mentioned your 15 years of experience in the auto parts industry. Why is it that you hold on to 30 year old concepts and ignore the new products and technology? Europe is on a 9000 mile oil change interval. The U.S. 3000 miles. WHY? I suggest it is in fact the POCKETBOOK. Do the Europeans have better oils than we do? Are their cars so superior they can handle 9000 mile change intervals? Do American auto manufacturers require 3000 mile oil changes on their cars operating in Europe? The answer to these questions is NO! PLEASE...read the research, use some common sense, be open to new ideas and technology. Synthetic oils are not perfect but they are much better than the average consumer realizes. I choose to use them. I choose to do my homework on the topic. I choose to push back and not fall victim to the 30 year old oil change scam. Free choice.......you gotta love it!

i think its silly to determine the condition of the oil by looking at the color/shade of the oil. in most cars, oil will turn black after 500 or so. the best way to determine oil life in an engine is to analysis it, and the ultimate numbers that everyone should care about is the metal wear residue suspend in the oil. if you take your oil to 7k, and it shows little engine wear in the analysis, that should pretty much conclude that the oil is safe to go to that length. changing your oil at every 3k is a waste of money and harm to the enviroment. it only benefits the dealers, quicklube, and the oil companies.

you guys should really check out this forum and learn everything about oil: http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi

I've been participating in this thread with you which until now has been friendly debate, but now you're turning it around. Don't ever accuse me of trying to "bullshit" people when we're here in a debate of opinions. It's obvious that all of your "scientific blah de blah blah" can't be questioned even when presented with simple facts of practical experience.

I stopped listening to you after the above statement, and I'm done with this thread. If you don't want to keep it in a debate forum and want to accuse me of being some sort of bullshit artist, this discussion is over.
