Rear view mirrors discoloring

I have an 04 TL that I bought about 7 months ago. I noticed the other day, my driver side rear view mirror has a "discoloration" or what looks like rust at the bottom of it and it seems to be getting worse. When I bought the car, not even 8 months ago, this was not there. I read that this was caused by the heated mirrors. Is that true? Is there anything that can be done to fix that? The car has 72,000 miles and I am not under warranty so unless Acura is feeling generous, I doubt it will be fixed by them.

Any help appreciated!

Car 1: 2004 Ford Mustang
Can't say that I've seen this issue on an Acura to my recall, but this used to be a common issue on Jaguars when I worked at a dealership many moons ago.

The good news is that the part itself (a replacement glass with heater) is only about $24
