What oil is good?

I have read somewhere in the sticky above on synthetic oil that if not for emission concerns, a 5-30W grade oil is better for our Acuras. How true is this?

There isn't a great deal of difference between 5w30 and 5w20 IMHO, but that being said, I'd just use what it calls for. If Acura didn't think it was important, they wouldn't have made all the dealers change over to the 5w20.

Is it true that the reason they switched to 5-20W is to improve on emission ratings?

My guess is yes. I think it was 2004 when they started spec'ing the 5w20. They didn't change the size of the oil ports in the engine, but it takes less fuel to push a lighter oil through an engine. While the difference in one vehicle is barely significant, multiply that by all of the vehicles that Honda produces, and you have a large number.
