Car 1: 1990 acura legend |
i bought my legend about 8 months ago, it is in very good condition and runs great. i have not had any problems with it since about a month ago, every once in a while i will here my car honking and the lights going on and off, sounds like an alarm to me, but it has no light or noise when you lock the doors or a remote. does it come standard in it or did someone put it in after it was made. but the wierd part about it is that when it goes off, there is no one around the car at all, so it goes off by itself
. does anyone have any ideas on what it is????? |

Its a common malfunction for the security systems...
When you lock the car with your key, the system arms after about 15 seconds. If the doors, trunk, or hood are opened without disarming it, the alarm honks the horn... If your alarm is malfunctioning, best thing to do for now is bypass is by bending the latch that monitors the hood....it is located over the driver's headlight... bend the bracket so that the latch is always popped out and will no longer be pushed down by the hood. Be warned, however, your alarm will no longer go off, leaving you vulnerable to theft...get an aftermarket one and have it professionally installed if you wish for something...

Actually bending the switch prevents the alarm from arming because the switch under the hood is not depressed...therefore no arm = no random triggers...
If it does it out of nowhere on its own, I would imagine that your computer is to blame...they can be found in the junkyard...but its always a crapshoot as they may have already been exposed to the elements
