Gen1 Legend Power Steering problem
Here's what's happening.
When you start the car(the problen actually occured while I was driving the car too), the wheel feels very light to turn (yes wheels are turning - at no time during any of this do the front wheels fail to turn when the steering wheel turns) suddenly the steering wheel gets very stiff, and feels like it is almost locked, then it releases and the wheel on it's own turns to the left and the steering wheel seems very light. last summer I did the AutoRX treatment after the steering system seemed to be binding up. I've checked the PS fluid the level is fine, no leaks, when you turn the wheel you can see the fluid moving. After running the car for just a few minutes the PS pump becomes very very hot, too hot to touch. I placed a temp guage on it and the outside of the pump is over 200 degrees, the Altenator is only about 100 degrees. this is with the hood open on a cool day after only 3-5 minutes. Any idea where the problem is? Thanks Mike |
