Newbie needs help with speakers...
Hello, im new to the forum
![]() I bought a mint condition 90 Acura Legend about 3 months ago for 500 dollars. No rust on the body or anything. Hard to believe, the lady I bought it from thought she was ripping me off lol. The car did indeed have its share of problems. New brakes, new stereo and case and a few little things here and there. The main reason she sold for so cheap was because the original system in the car, would always for some reason stay on and drain the battery. So she pretty much gave up on the car. It spent most of its life in california which explains the lack of body wear on it and its only got about 150 k. Long story short about a k later I got this thing on the road running beautifully. However the other day I noticed that the passenger side mid was blown. At louder volumes you can hear somewhat of a rumble type noise (no, not a good rumble, it stands...like a blown speaker sounds lol) and at really loud volumes, it starts to crackle. Im not sure whether it comes from the back or the front. The other day I was pissed as hell and heard the thing start crackling so out of anger I just cranked the thing as loud as I could and it ended up blowing. I changed the fuse from the original 7.5 fuse (I believe I could be wrong though) to a 10 and im hoping this fuse might be able to handle louder volumes. But im curious about what to do with the system. I dont have as much pride as some of the members and also the money to put into this car. Its never gven me a single problem but im mainly using it as a work cark. I wouldnt want to replace the entire set because the stock set is a bose as usual and can pump out some serious noise aside from that one blown mid. What are my options here? If I replace the stock system for something else, chances are i will buy something thats not even as good as the original bose system. Anyone have any advice? |

replace
Hey bud. Sounds like its time to trade up stereo system. Trust me, that old bose system is virtually useless. You can keep the head unit, but you must replace the speakers. You can fit 6 1/2" speakers in the front door, but you must remove the door to do so. I was able to fit 5 1/4 speakers in the door without removing door, but just the speaker grill (kick panel). Check out acura-legend.com some guys there have set up some cool systems. In fact,. I am going to post pics of the install there soon. you can mail me at potter_gordon@hotmail.com . I love doing sound system installs, so I would be happy to give you some advise.

Actually using aftermarket speakers with the Bose Headunit will give you lower volume as the Bose system operates at 2 ohms and most aftermarket speakers run at 4 ohms...
Your best bet would be to invest in a good aftermarket headunit and bypass the Bose Amplifiers to run aftermarket speakers...or you could also run all new speaker wire which isnt nearly as hard as it sounds.... Also, I believe the stereo fuse on the driver's kickpanel is 10amps and also ties in with the Clock. But just for the record, please dont ever replace a blown fuse with one of higher amperage....electric fires are killers ![]()
