Car 1: 91 Acura Legend
Buying 91 Legend Ls Should i be scared

Hey guys friday I will be spending a small amount of cash on a legend with 175k on it. Normally I would not even look at any vehicle with over 120k on it. but i've been hearing these Ac's will last well over 300k so i want to know if I should invest $2200 for this. Fully loaded with factory keyless entry very well maintained, with records from day one Four new 60k-mile Yokohama tires,new vehicle speed sensor,new tie-rod end and boots, new CV boots, new brakes; new A/C expansion valve, conversion and recharge;
Mechanically very solid, very quiet and smooth ride. Has dents and scratches, but overall body and paint in good condition. Leather is worn, has seat covers. He was asking $4000 but u know it is tax time so he bought a new vehicle and he wants to get rid of this one. IS IT WORTH IT FOR ME. will i be able to ride back and forth to new york. from personal experience is this vehile that durable?

Hmmm....its a 17 year old car...Offer $1500.00 but go upto $1800.00. Remember its an oldie...ask him about the timing belt...thats the most important item on that car. Was it ever replaced?

Good luck

^ yeah okay... G2 Legends are very RELIABLE CARS assuming the cooling system was maintained, G1 legends, even more reliable, just yet again be weary of headgasket issues that may surface, check for coolant loss / maple syrupy smell exhaust, exhaust mixing in with coolant and If you are worried about it having a head gasket do a hydrocarbon test, other than that they are very reliable cars and classy, then again I am a biased G2 legend owner has had absolutely no issues with the car (except for one axle..)

My dad has a 89 Legend, and is has 260,xxx miles we drove it from Frisco to Reno a few times, which is 4 hours each way, and every few weeks we drive up north for 2 hours, and half hours.

And we never had any problems, just make sure the car the timing belt, water pump, and so on been replaced, and don't forget to do a carfax report good luck.

On a G2 Legend its not if your head gaskets leak ,its when.

The G1 legend was a good car,but the auto trannys have problems. The 5 speed cars will run forever.

A G2 Legend with all records provided that can prove that it was well maintained is very likely to have absolutely no head gasket problems....

Its the buyer's responsibility to have enough respect for themselves to do proper research in purchasing any used car....if you find a decent shape G2 that has all records and will provide them to you, go for it...its a good buy so long as you keep up on the maintenance...

Neglect and abuse are the #1 contributors to a BHG in Legends.

That is a true statement. A friend of mine used to work at a proving/test facility that Ford owns in Arizona. Honda brought in ten second gen Legends to work on the head gasket issue during the production run. He said that they finally had a head gasket fail by using old coolant and simulating heavy city driving.

Incidentally, he says that the G2 Legend was, and still is, the most popular test car that facility ever had in its fleet with the test drivers.
