Car 1: 91 l sedan
The elusive "front-end-shake-upon-accelleration" fixed!!

Hi, Ben here, I'm afraid my first post is going to be 'longish'. First off I'm a car audio installer from just outside Seattle, I own my own shop, specializing in hi-end, and unusual products or applications, more recently I've been doing alot more upholstery(from simple headliners to completes) I also have dabbled in 'implanted rfid technology'(there is a video circulating showing my crossfire unlocking, starting, and driving using only my implanted chip as the "key".
My legend story goes like this; It is a 91 "L" that I've owned since 98. It had 36k on it when I bought it from the proverbial 'little old lady' who only used it on sundays. No significant work(except for two speed sensors) until about 85k when I did the timing belts and axles. We needed to get that done before a trip to vegas in jan, 05 (rumour has it that while I was sleeping in the back seat on the way out from 'ces', in the middle of the night, my car never dropped below 125 mph for 125 miles!! thats with a 900 pound payload! These cars are Awsome) After the axles I didn't have any issues untill 110k when I noticed a what felt like a belt separating. I took it to the tire place they found excessive wear on the right front and replaced it, pro-rated(discount tire, good service, Yokahama 215/50) No change. Next I got with my mechanic, and decided to do the struts(originals) No change. Lower ball joints next, while we were doing those we discovered the probable cause of the tire wear, right front wheel bearing. Back together, NO CHANGE. It's starting to get frustrating. Then I found this forum and some people were talking about the rear trans mount - looked up there and sure-enough the rubber was competely separated, swapped it out. NO CHANGE!! - Let it sit for a few days, contemplate selling it,. We have the thing on the lift looking it over to see what we might have missed - and I reached up and pulled up and down on the right axle, there's a ton of play at the inner cv!, bear in mind these are the axles that have 25k on them. As you rotate the tire the axle shifts in the cage and gets kinda "out of true" is the best way I could explain it, This caused an Imbalance that would aggavate with higher speed and under load, either accel or decel. So thats it, the vibration would start, very light at 20-30 under acceleration, and then by 55-60, if you rocked the car heavy on throttle and then full lift it would start to shake wildly, If you maintain just light throttle at 50-60 it would almost go away. Needless to stay I replaced it wth a brand new axle(no more rebuilts for me) and it's fixed! Hope this helps somebody, I spent a lot of money chasing a defective part - the only consolation is that every thing I did was either broken or almost at the end of it's cycle anyway, the car drives like new now and I'll probably get another 100k out of her. Welcome to the Forum Ben. Glad to see that you are enjoying your Legend after your issues. There are lots of helpful DIY's here as well.
