Hard Starting When Cold. Not Relay!
My car does not start up right away when cold. The engine turns but does not start. If I turn it off and try again it starts up in a heart beat. I have the problem isolated to lack of fuel and the main relay is ok. I do not see any leaks or smell gas around the injectors so the o-rings are ok. I am suspecting ether the fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator is bad. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Lets check the easy stuff first
Did you check the fuel filter? I used to add an in-line fuel filter to all of my cars years ago. If the filter is good get a buddy and see if the fuel pump is pumping by disconnecting the fuel line and have him/her crank the engine. Make sure of course you have a container to collect the gas. If the fuel pump is working you should see gas pumping out at good clip.

Problem Solved!
The problem was using regular and not premium gas. I filled up with premium and the cold start problem went away. We usually fill her up with premium but recently due to rising gas costs we were using regular 87 octane. Could the mandatory 10% ethanol here in Hawaii be part of the problem? My older 92 never had this problem and we filled with premium one out of 3 fills but this was before the E10.
