my legend shake when I accelerate

Today, I change my brake pad. I thought it would solve the problem of the car shaking. When I accellerate and goes above 20 mph it start to shake from the right tire.(passenger side) I took off my tire and I saw there was a nail on the tire. Could this be the problem? I also thought it could of been my rotors. I am not sure why this car shakes. Can anyone help me?

edit: yea if it's happening at 20mph, rotate and balance the tires first

Could be several reasons why

An out of balanced tire could indeed cause the shaking problem. Could be the CV joints, or tie rod ends. But lets look the nail in the tire first. Typically if a car shakes when braking its most likely the rotors.

If you removed the nail has the shaking stopped? (Assuming the tire has been patched and re-balanced)

If it still appears at around 20MPH does it go away at higher speeds?

Let us know
Good Luck

well if it's on acceleration, you better check the axles and CV boots. Especially getting the vibration at such low speeds

brake pads have nothing to do with it.

before replacing both front axles, I was getting terrible vibrations....almost like I was driving over speed bumps. It would happen randomly, and only on acceleration.

EX: I'd be driving 70mph on the highway...doing fine. Then all of a sudden it's vibrating bad...like I'm on the shoulder warning patch of the highway....so I let off the gas and coast....NO vibrations. Touch the gas pedal and boom...vibration city. Took it in and both my axles were shot...one CV boot was torn and all the grease had emptied out...the other one seemed ok. And I really trust my mechanic - but he did show me the old axles afterwords.

Does this sound like what's happening to you?

Yep look at the CV joints

The CV joints as I mentioned as well as another member pointed out. The rubber boots deteriorate over time. Water, salt and dirt, etc...get into the joint and its good bye joint.

Inspect the boot to see if its cracked or torn..or better yet take it to a good front end shop.

Good luck

I would also recommend looking at the rotors since those parts are notorious for warping. Based on his follow up, what about the damage done to the brake lines?
