Need some help with ABS Light & Odometer not working
Hi, I've searched the forums for help with specific issues like mine and I have not found any that offered any for my probs, so I'll try this direct post approach instead. (If anyone knows of forum posts that do apply to my questions, please let me know). We have a '94 Legend L 4-door sedan, AT, with 215K miles. It has been in the family since it had about 25K miles on it. Current driver is an 18 year old daughter who just left for college out of state, and the car now remains at home. The car has been used pretty much non-stop for the last 2 years, so now that it's sitting unused in the driveway, I have time for some much needed DIY service.
Here's what I've done over the last few days - I replaced the front pads with OE honda parts - a very easy job on a well designed front disk brake system! I wish they were all this easy. Bled the brakes and added fresh fluid. I put some new tires on the front. I replaced the cabin air filter - pretty easy with the DIY help on this forum. I replaced the heater/ac blower motor, as ours would screech and howl, but only during the winter when replacement was much more inconvenient. That took some time, & I had to use a mirror to see up under there, but I got that job done easily as well. All is well up to this point !! Now for the nasty stuff I'm stuck on....
1) The ABS light is on - has been on for 6-8 months. When I was under the pass side dash I used a jumper on the service check connector and pulled the ABS codes. I get 1-2, 2-1, 2-1. I have a Haynes Repair Manual, and they don't touch ABS brakes, other than tell you to see a qualified repair tech. The do give the codes though, and the 1-2 (my main problem) translates to "Pump motor circuit problem". Since I'm not ABS repair fluent, can anyone who has been thru this offer some advice on this problem, what is it actually, and how might I go about an inexpensive repair? The 2-1 code has to do with "Parking Brake Switch related problem". I haven't figured out that one either as we always use the parking brake, and the parking brake light always goes on correctly. If fixing either of these will require major surgery (and expense), then we will continue to drive it with the ABS light on (and no, I'm not looking to cut the wire to the light!!)
2) The odometer and trip meter have not worked for about 2-3 months. The tach and speedometer work fine. I did replace the VSS about a year ago to address erratic speedometer readings, D4 light blinking, shifting issues, etc. The VSS replacement did fix all of those problems at that time. Is there a known soft spot that causes the odometer and trip meter not to work that can be repaired without major surgery? Is it a mechanical or an electronic problem? Can someone who has some experience in this specific issue offer any advice?
That's it for now. Thanks in advance for any help that the forum members can provide !!! Ken
