During a drive through California's Mojave Desert, Automotive Traveler came across a 2009 Acura TL undergoing what looks to be some serious hot weather testing. We're not saying it's a sauna or anything, but we think maybe the new TL should ditch some of that camouflage to cool down. Although the guys who spotted it didn't need that to identify the new Acura, given the cars Ohio plates indicating it makes it's home at Honda's plant in Marysville, OH. Of course, we've seen the new 2009 TL several times before, so the only big mystery is how big the wide-toothed smile will be. Well, that and the powertrain options.
Even though we thought the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept from the 2007 Detroit Auto Show was a bit of a stinker when it came to telegraphing the 2010 Acura NSX, it looks like the shape has finally evolved into the real deal. That's right, here is the first look we've gotten at the front-engined successor to the mid-engined supercar. Clad in heavy camo, the scion of the NSX is rumored to be sporting a V10 under that long bonnet, and we wouldn't be surprised to hear of some magical transmission trickery either. We also wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a fast one and released it as a 2009 model, considering how far along this one seems. But all of this has us a bit... confused.
Honda/Acura had its 2009 dealer meeting in New Orleans last week, and a little birdie that claims to have attended has whispered some details about the 2009 Acura TL in our ears. According to our anonymous tipster, the '09 TL range will consist of two models. The front-wheel-drive car will be powered by a 3.5L V6 delivering 280 horsepower. The step-up version will feature SH AWD and have a 3.7L, 300-horsepower V6 underhood (presumably the same one used in the MDX). We're told the latter car is not a Type-S, by the way -- that trim level goes back into hibernation with the arrival of the '09. Word is, the car "looks amazing." The TL in its current state is Acura's best-looking vehicle, so our curiosity is definitely piqued.
TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 11, 2008 – Acura announced today it will debut the all-new 2009 Acura TSX sports sedan at the 2008 New York International Auto Show and released an exterior photo of the new model. Scheduled to go on-sale in the spring, the 2009 Acura TSX will be the second generation of Acura's popular entry level sedan and feature numerous advancements in performance, styling, technology and safety.
"The new 2009 TSX speaks clearly to the direction we are taking our Acura sedans in the future," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president auto sales, "The TSX is a significant step in the advancement of our sedan lineup and the continued enhancement of the Acura brand."
Acura unveiled the new 2009 RL at the Chicago Auto Show last week and also announced the company will introduce an-all new TL performance luxury sedan later this year.
