bunch-o-trade rag reviews

jinnyedit: This may ultimately prove to be a bad idea, but I decided to mergea all the trade rag revies on the new RL into one thread... mainly, so thatwe didn't have a page and a half of stickies.

I confiscated some of Nick's post space to list the separate posts here so, that the you didn't have to go looking for the post...

the posts are listed newest up here and oldest at the bottom.

Unfortunately, I have to wait to October 4 on Speed Channel before viewing the road test...but please comment if you were able to see it on PBS!!!

Damn, that early review couldn't be any better.

"Microphones strategically placed throughout the interior identify extraneous sounds. A special amplifier emits a counter-acoustic wavelength through the speakers, nullifying that sound. From rest to high speeds, the car is eerily quiet. Even while passing over corrugated concrete surfaces, the normal high frequency sound is all but eliminated."

This car is packed with high tech stuff. I so want one. MT listed the msrp as 48,000, so I may be able to afford one around 2009. A 2005 model one, that is

I've been waiting for that 180 degrees out-of-phase to become mainstream. I think I read about that over 15 years ago...

That's a great early review!!!!

I'm sure at some point someone in my family will buy one at some point in time. Grandparents/parents, who knows-but mark my words-someone in my family will. (Even though right now, they all say they like what they have-yeah right-that's what you said last time. )

I don't drive an Acura anymore, but I used to, so I'm really not the enemy.

I sure hope that was in Canadian dollars. At $70K that would be a huge mistake. That would put it in a higher price class than the Lexus GS430 and LS430 as well as the BMW 545. In that league it is not going to be a success. I really like this RL but it is no where near $70K class.

"Silent and velvety smooth from idle to red line, it is unobtrusive under all conditions and requires no attention other than fluid replacement for 160,000 kilometres."

"Fuel economy (litres/100 km): 13.1 city/9.4 highway"

Yep, that's $70K Canucks.

I think they messed up the fuel mileage.

I noticed something like that also, but I don't think that it has cooling seats. Compare the two pictures below. The one with the buttons is what's currently on the production and just looks like a Lo/Hi button. But if you look at the other it has a Blue/Red button and bar. I believe this would have been the cooled seats, or more stages of heating.

But from what it looks like, we're only getting heated seats. Not heated and cooled.

the U.S is getting less features then the canadian market.

Canadian models come with bilingual voice-recognition and navigation systems, headlight washers and ventilated seats with both heating and cooling.

that is another reason why i think the U.S market will have a price of ~49k which is lower then the canada conversion price for the u.s market.

i asked this guy from vtec.net to scan the pages of the car and drive review. He only replied with some quotes.

these quotes are form the car and driver oct issue.

"This is the first Acura sedan that can belly up to the no-limits table with the major players."
"The car is well balanced and feels as solid and safe as an investment in Honda stock."
"In the straight stretches between turns, the RL was quick, sounded appropriately authoritative, felt as firm as a Bradley fighting vehicle, and revealed no untoward traits."
