I read somewhere that there was (past tense) a "gentleman's agreement" in Japan to keep all of their cars under 300hp.. that's why the NSX was made with just shy of 300hp. With the HoresPowerWars begining here in north america I can't see why Japan wouldn't follow.. Add 200hp to the new NSX and that car would be a serious contender for top three supercars, along with the enzo and the new porche....

The gentlemans agreement is simly that. A some what of a promise to keep the cars HP below 276 HP. However it was never a law. Many cars surpassed that a long time ago, just advertised it as 276 HP. Ever wonder why so many JDM cars have 276 HP? The NSX has 290, but shows 276. The Nissan 300ZX, Skyline, Supra all have more HP as well. Honda was the first to publically break the gentlemans agreement with the RL with 300 HP as they advertsise it at such.

By the way. We have all heard the rumors that Honda will come out with a new NSX to fight the Corvette at that price range. Now, we really don't know if that is true, or if the lower Corvette price is true either. We also heard rumors about Honda coming out with a large luxury sedan above the RL with a V8 to compete with the LS430 and such. Again, all rumors. However, my friend at Acura has always has some good information for me (He was dead on with the new 05 RL) told me Honda told them they are working on a V8. He said the V8 probably will find its way into all the Honda/Acura SUVs like the MDX and Pilot. Now that the Honda Ridgeline truck is out, it does make sense that Honda will come out with a V8 and put it in that truck as well. If this turns out to be true, a new NSX with a V8 is possible. Still, all rumors, but put together all the leaks and it does kind of make sense. We can only hope I guess. I wouldn't expeect any of this until 2008 or later though as another rumor is the next NSX will come out no sooner than 2008. That probably means in 2007 as an 08 model.

I have a Japanese car magazine that my friend gave me to read, and in one of those pages, a Honda V8 engine is clearly seen. Japanese captions along side it says "NSX", but I can't confirm this as I don't read Japanese. I also see a Honda 2.2L Turbo engine (VTEC, DOHC). I can scan this into Adobe acrobat .pdf format and e-mail the article if anyone wants to see it. Not sure how the picture quality will turn out though. PM me if you are interested.

Yes, that would be cool. It is always fun to see what the media is saying whether it turns out to be true or not

Few people know this but Honda actually is wwilling to make a V8 or turbo car if it fits their needs and they have to. The concept NSX also had working prototypes of a V8 NSX, Turbo NSX, and even a V10 NSX. This is reported in a compliation of NSX related articles in an NSX book I have.

Sure no problem! Current my office scanner is down, so I can't do squat. If you can convert the .pdf file into jpeg and post it up, it'd be cool! PM me your e-mail address, and I'll make sure you get one.

if honda it to seriously compete in the market place of sports cars and the now new truck/suv segment in the US, they NEED to produce a V8

here is a pic of the RL (Mugen Tuned with a V8) with any good luck it will make its way down to the honda line up.

The problem is with that Mugen tuned V8 engine it wont last very long since that was from one of the JGTC prepped race cars. It is a full blown race engine. It is an awsome looking and performing engine, but it has little to do with Honda and more so Mugen. I'm getting confident Honda will release their own production V8 soon. Probably after 2 years though.

Yeah, that is nowhere near a production engine

Given their track record, Honda's more likely to produce a hybrid supercar than an overpowered hunk of metal.
